I’m planning on ordering a new set of tires tomorrow and I’m only going to a slightly larger 265/70R17. I’ve seen some other threads where it has been mentioned that it looks like there is room for a larger spare tire but has anyone done it yet?

I’m getting the tires for a very good price so I’d like to get a 5th one and get it mounted on the spare wheel if it will fit for sure!

I'm going to be doing the same thing. If i recall correctly, I remember reading somewhere that someone did fit a 265/70/17 in the spare tire and it fit just fine but I can't find the exact post

Thanks, I thought so too but couldn’t find it either!

Yeah I put on a matching 265/70 17 on my spare, fit fine. There's lots of room under the truck

Thanks! I just ordered the same tires as you, the Grabber ATX in the same size.

Both these threads mention fitting 275/70/17 spares and neither says they don't fit at ~32" as far as I see.

Fusseli: how much more room do you think you have for spare size?

Non-quantitative statement: there's plenty o room.

Qualitative statement: I remember seeing a rubber pad or something on the underside of the bed/frame that I think you'd need a massively larger tire in order for the side wall not to mount well against when the chain snugs it tight. As a wild ass guess I think a 32 or 33 or even bigger would probably fit fine.

There are pictures on the forums of the truck up on a lift to see what's under there. One could also crawl under the truck and see for themselves.

there is a ton of room underneath, I'd guess you could probably get close to a 35" tire under there without any issues. I put one of my 32's under and there's easily 2" of clearance on all sides.

I have a 265/65/R18 mounted on one of the Ford Sport 18" wheels under there, I think a 265/70/R18 would probably fit as there's a little bit of space all around (tho it's close). A thicker tire than a 265 is going to get pretty close to impinging on the straight line from the bottom of the rear diff to the trailer hitch (would be even more likely if there's no hitch since the angle is steeper).

Make sure you check your spare rim size, mine is 16". I opted to use my XLT 17" rim with a BFG KO2 255/75R 17 to match the diameter of my Falkens. Plenty of room for a tire at least an inch taller than this one.

I'm putting 285/70R17's on all 4 corners tomorrow. I'm considering purchasing a 5th 17" and mounting a full-sized tire for the spare.

Has anybody fit a 285/70R17 underneath?

You should be fine. @Fordrangerlifts.com has put a 33x12.50 underneath!
