What I did is I bought a waterproof cover if he would sit in the middle. Before when mats for dogs are little pricey, I DIY it. Bought 6 yards of waterproof cloth and sew some garter at the end and velcro.

My dog literally goes everywhere with me with the exception of work. He never gets car sick, boat, sock or air sick but sheds like crazy. Best solution I’ve always found are the harbor freight moving blankets. Protects the seats from his nails, the dog hair clings to it, and if he ever did have a mess or I spilled his water bowl, the material absorbs it. They are on sale for under 5 bucks in two sizes. Cheap enough to toss, or wash. You can buy upholstery clips to secure it to the seat, or just tuck it in.

Those harbor freight blankets are great, but I have a couple of UHaul blankets that got misplaced (and they didn't want them back) so I'm using a couple of those just on the seat bottom. I have the leather seats so I'm not worried about getting them dirty - they wipe off. I put these on the seat bottom to protect against claws, etc.

Here is my dog and my son's dog after several hours of hiking - they were tired out- you can see the blankets under them:

I've hauled my dog for many of the 8,000 miles I have on my truck now and this has worked well for me.

I just throw a full sized travel crate on the back seat. It's a tough squeeze to get the carrier in there, but it beats having 70lbs of mutt trying to climb into the front seat!

I got this from amazon.
$35 and it covers the whole seat.
The only problem is getting 1 of my dogs to climb in while the other one jumps right in like nothing. I wish the seats when lifted were flat be easier for both dogs and more room.

Here is the dog cover/sling I linked in the post directly above. I haven't had a chance to try it with my GSD yet. I'll follow up with any issues.

One thing I really love about the F150 over the Ranger is the flat floor when the rear seat is folded up.
me to -- had the f150 and I do miss the flat rear seat area so much space back there!!! but the Ranger fits my life in many other ways so I need to find a way to live with this back seat and protect it so I can use it for cargo. great truck but this is an area that could use an update.

I'm leaning in this direction: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07DCT6SP...&pd_rd_r=94db0285-3092-11e9-aa46-c39cdcdc9328

I want to protect the door panels as well as the seats. In fact, I may even go so far as to put seat covers UNDER the dog hammock, to ensure that dog hair doesn't get into the seams and joints of the seats.
thanks for the tip--- just ordered one mostly to protect the seats when carrying groceries and other stuff I don't want to put in the bed but this looks perfect! thanks!

Has anyone looked into making a platform when the rear seats are lifted up?

Just for the reference; I purchased a hammock style from 4Knine.com on AMZN. They have a warranty for life. When the stitches started coming apart where the seat belts come through, I called them on it. They sent me a replacement, no questions asked and told me to donate the old one to a Rescue. Not sure why they continue to provide Velcro slots for the seatbelts, a human can’t sit back there w a 100 # GSD. He on the other hand wears a harness attached to old perlon climbing rope, attached via carabiners to the grab handles. He can stick his nose out either window, but will stay in the truck in the event of a roll-over (which is possible when Daddy drives off-road!!). Good luck.

I thought about doing a rear seat delete, but I do on occasion have more than one passenger. So I made a platform that I can quickly insert and remove. And I'd be able to clip a tether into one of the buckles hanging under the seat. However, I failed to consider the nasty hook on the underside. It seems that hook is only there to stop the seat from moving forward in an impact, I have not seen this in any other truck. Thinking about just taking an angle grinder to it. Thoughts or other ideas?

I'd fashion a cap for it.

Nice, i was thinking of doing this, I'm guessing you used a piece of plywood and stapled some of that carpet material to it?
