Busy boy this morning, took three hours but like the results. Used the Duplicolor Brake Caliper paint.

Okay since you all asked to see a picture with the wheel off, here it is. What nobody asked for it? Well I had to do touch up and I'm in a sharing mood.

... Used the International Harverster Red industrial acrylic paint...
Did you use any kind of paint prep or scuff up the plastic, when you painted the red accent on the fender badge? I really like the look, especially for a FX4 truck thta has the red/orange decals badges on the bed.

Brake caliper cover's always intrigued me...kinda reminds of bath tub cover:giggle:

I've been putting off painting mine but now that I know how to disassemble the calipers (for pad change), I'm planning on taking them apart and coating them next time I do a tire rotation. This is the only way to get at every part of the brake and NOT on the pad etc...

Personally not a fan, this falls in line with something Ricky does down the street to his 89 Honda civic ricer.

New Brembo calipers? I could get on board with that if money’s not a issue
Money would definitely be a factor here, I do agree old school painted calipers were pretty cheesy. But new calipers already have a fairly smooth surface and take the more modern paint very well. You can spend less than $100 in material to paint versus spending what would probably end up being $1600-4000 to do a big brake kit front and back. Plus most of us will never push our trucks to such limits to really need more than just better rotors and pads

I think on a truck a nicely painted black caliber is okay but I’m not a fan of painting them a bright colour.

Here's a nice breakdown of the two methods, cover or paint...

https://www.calipercovers.com/blog/mgp-caliper-covers-or-caliper-paint/
Hi Sid,

Would like contasting calipers on my Ford GT, If I had one... Almost had a 2005, but GF and soon to be wife nixed the deal and we bought a motorhome.... Oh well. Anyway. Brakes convert motive energy into heat. So what happens with these covers, How much insulating do these covers do to stop the dissipation of heat? Would be a major concern to me until data is provided to show the covers do not halt the key dissipation of heat... My opinion is Red on a Ferrari is cool...not so much on a Ranger, but JMO....

I'm agreeing with you Phil about red and been on the fence on a another color...but after more than 10k I've put on I haven't noticed much of a degradation of the OEM coating...hmmm...maybe I'll leave it alone :giggle:

Looks like our calipers and bracket are zinc coated. Never had good luck painting zinc plated steel at work without sending it out to a media blasting service, to etch the surface well. Always seems to just flake off after a year or so, even when you use an etching primer.
