So that little noise dampening insulation salt holding monster is 160$? Now that I know it's in there, I may have to make it not in there anymore...

Original post has been updated to reflect the new info provided by @djrobb.

It's no longer a good deal at $495.37. Hopefully the aftermarket will provide something to compete.

all of them have a skid on the oil pan, it's the plastic trans pan that's open and unprotected.

Yep. I’d like to see something to protect the trans pan.

Looks like the fuel tank doesn't have a steel plate either....

I ordered the skid plate for my 4x4 non-FX4 last week. The first one came into the dealer looking like it had already seen 100K miles on the trails, so they made an executive decision and re-ordered before I even saw the pictures. I should have a new plate in next week to install, and i'll do a review of the install procedure and provide it here. From everything i've seen, the hardest part will be removing the lower spoiler.

Oh shoot! I knew I forgot to post something!

The process was WAY easy. I was right, the hardest part is getting the lower spoiler removed, as there's 8-10 (I think) bolts that hold it on. The FX4 skid uses the same mounting bolts and positions as the non-FX4 plate, so no need to buy anything additional for the install. I'm out of town atm, but once i'm back i'll see if I can get some pictures of the spoiler bolt locations. I know they're also available in one of the service manuals posted elsewhere on the site.

Just FYI, if you're doing this on a 2wd, you'll need the tow hooks from a 4x4.

Are those exposed tow hooks specific to FX4 as well or are they on the other trucks and just not as visible? I wonder if they can be added aftermarket. I opted not to get FX4 for a couple of reasons but I like some of the style.
my STX has the tow hooks.

I believe everything higher than XL STX has exposed hooks. Not an FX4 thing.

Has anyone put a skid plate on a 2x4? It should just bolt right on from the looks of it.
