Just installed these replacement led housings from good ol' eBay and I feel like they're almost too bright? I might slightly tint them.Truck is pretty dirty I know.

Personally, I would just maybe tape off the top bit of them to keep the light from shining on the tailgate itself. But yeah, they're rather bright.

Wow, those bulbs are really bright for your license plate. They look like they’d be great for cargo lights or something but my Lariat has them, I don’t know if XLT’s do.

I went with Diode Dynamics 194 HP3 from Panda, think they were $8 a pair.

Going off subject, does the plate frame get in the way of the tailgate?

Thats an old dealer frame that did VERY badly. I since purchased the thinnest frame I could find and yes it still did come in contact with the tailgate. But I trimmed a bit of the license plate and frame with a dremel to lower them both a tiny bit and now everything clears.

I haven't thought of using the dremel to bring it down! Thanks for the tip.

My dealer frame did ever so slightly but I'm happier without out it anyways.

I noticed that my dealer frame did when the tailgate was fully open. I thought it odd but it was a quick fix to just remove the frame.

Good idea! Mine hit too so I removed the frame. I wanted to get a couple plate covers but I didn't want them to touch the tailgate but now I might try this.

You really have to trim just a tiny bit, not much at all, go slow.

The DD's are 56 lumens - twice the factory bulbs - I could give up a little of that brightness to not interfere with the backup camera at night...
