I found this on eBay:

https://www.ebay.com/itm/TWO-FRONT-...m=143091163443&_trksid=p2047675.c100009.m1982

It is pre-cut tint for the front windows - I have two questions:
  1. Has anyone used something like this? I've done window tint before, but it was never pro quality - this looks like kind of a foolproof way to install it cheap. For $18, it seems like an easy bet.
  2. What tint level would match the rear windows? They offer the following: 5%(Limo), 15%(Dark), 20%(Dark), 35%(Medium), 50%(Light) VLT Shades. Not sure what each one of those means.
Thanks for any insight anyone can provide.

First check w/ your state laws on allowed tint level if you want to stay legal.
Second, your back window tint rating is prob in the lower left corner stamped in the verbiage there if you look close.

Here's where several of us have talked about it. https://www.ranger5g.com/forum/threads/tinted-my-windows.1600/

I'm confused by the tint levels. It would appear that the lower the number, the darker the tint? Is that number a percentage of how much light gets thru? I would expect a higher number to be darker.

Edit: Nevermind - I found my answer - VLT - Visible Light Transmission - so a higher number equates to a lighter tint. The tint level is the VLT.

I used 20% to match the rear windows. Legal here is 27% all around. I never received a ticket for tint and I have tinted all my vehicles 20% all around. 5% is Limo tint. I just told my tint guy to match the rears.

35% up front which is the darkest legal in NC. Was around $120 with lifetime warranty

20% matches rear glass perfect, I tint every vehicle I own 20% fronts and 50% entire windshield. This is 100% illegal but I’ve never been hassled over it.

I own and operate my Shop here in Florida, stay away from the kits... do yourself a favor, go to a reputable shop and stop being cheap on window tint.

A Ceramic Tint job on the Ranger will run you $300-$650 at my shop and will perform for years of ownership. Pay up, and you will be grateful you did. Else, removal of poor quality film and new installation can run you 3 times as much. I even did my full windshield on 70% Ceramic, I never run my A/C above #1 fan speed.

Go to www.tintlaws.com for state by state details

I dont think windshield tint is legal in my area at all, but it begs me to ask a question. I do see an advantage to have it for a few reasons, but also I see the negatives.

How easy is it to see pedestrian etc at night? or majestic deer migrating across busy roadways to bang Bambies mom in the other ditch on the other side.
Around here it rains alot obviously, and at night, coupled with the obnoxiously bright stop lights and street lights, the road glare on wet pavement literally makes pedestrians dissappear. You dont see some of them until they are in your grill literally.

Maybe I dont eat enough raw carrots, I dunno, but I wonder if the tint helps or hinders in a a situation like that?
the tint going on the windshield isn't making it darker, the film is there to block heat and uv. as far as legal... dot says the windshield can not drop below 70%.

Regarding windshield tinting, how does the moisture/fogging affect the tinting...short and long term?

true DOT says 70% but each state has their own laws. www.tintlaws.com and most don't allow for reflective tint below the AS1 line. Like MT non-reflective tint is allowed above the AS1 line only.

No issues, All my vehicles have had Film on the windshield, no issues. The hardest part is when you get a rock chip, glass replaced, new expense for a new windshield film.

so its more of a clear UV film rather than a tinted product?
there are 2 types. 70% and 90%. now most modern cars have a some light blocking already inherent to them, so using the 70% would put them under, but the 90% will keep you legal. I got the 70% put on and you can't tell the difference.
