I have 2, one on each side. (Added a few things to it
https://www.ranger5g.com/forum/threads/slight-mod-to-the-ford-oem-swing-out-tool-boxes.2397/)
I actually converted the passenger side to hold my onboard ARB air compressor :)
The brackets it comes with seems pretty sturdy, the actual tool boxes themselves are decent size and quality.
(Although I wish the material was a bit thicker, or heavy duty)
It does help organize stuff in the bed, if that’s what you’re looking for.
PS- the cup holder feature is not useful, as anything you put on it would just slide off.

I LOVE this setup! I have a full emergency kit in my Subaru and I want to have a copy of it in the Ranger. This looks like a fantastic way to make it happen.

I will also echo, how did you attach the fire extinguisher? Also, I see that you have the spray-in bed liner. Any issues with installing these with the bed liner?

Thanks!

I am having a hard time finding something like this. I even checked west marine but they don't sell the salt water products in Indiana.
CRC# 05048, many parts stores sell it or something like it. I've got customers that use the Fluid film(AAP/CQ #00207) on their lawn mowers and plow blades, some like it, some don't. I believe it may be metal vrs other material issue.

Are these boxes easily removable if you need to use the entire bed? Kind of looks like it might lift off the mounting hardware but I've never saw one in person.
Sorry for the delay, Yes the tool boxes themselves are removable, but the mounting plates stays in place.

Thanks, I used an aluminum bike water bottle holder and a large Quick Fist clamp to mount the fire extinguisher. No issues, even after hundreds of miles on highways, rough roads and bumps.:)

BTW, the only minor issue with the factory bed liner, is that you have to scrape off some material from the oem torx bolts before you can remove them (so you can reinstall them with the tool box mounting plates).

Did you install yours on top of the plastic bed liner?
Besides what you mentioned the tool box fits without the liner interfering with a good fit?

Mine has the factory spray in bed liner. (I believe the instruction is a bit different with the plastic bed liner).

Hi everyone,
I ended up getting a couple of these swing boxes, and I really liked the idea of have an extinguisher mounted to it. I wanted it to not interfere with the ability to swing and remove the box, so I changed the mounting location. I reinforced the bolts with a thin piece of aluminum barstock on the inside of the box so the bolts wouldn't pull through.
Thanks,
B.

Too bad you have to choose between these and a bed extender...

It looks like this box will not work with the plastic in-bed liner.

Im wishing I didn’t get it now, mines fixing to be a CL listing or become a piece of yard art.

Hi, it’s in the link in that post you quoted. Scroll down to post number #13 and it will show the pics and back of tool box with screws. If you want to do something similar, ARB ships their compressor with a template, just use that as reference( just make minor adjustments to suit your needs ). The power is direct to battery, double 40 amp fuse (came with ARB compressor) then extend it per instruction, basically 10 gauge x2 wires for positive, and 8 gauge x1 wire for negative. Ran wire from battery, then under d/s frame rail, then into the bed.

Does the Fire Extinguisher mounted there interfere with the box swinging out at all? Looking to add one on my Pivot Box.

I can actually swing it out towards the edge of the bed with no problem.
It really depends on how you mount it, and the size of the fire extinguisher.
(Like I mentioned in my other posts, I used a an aluminum bike drink holder, and large QuickFist clamp. BTW the fire extinguisher is a smaller, slim UL type for auto and home)

I don't have a tonneau, are there any extinguishers made to be outside all the time?

I personally wont leave it exposed to the elements, even with the UL rating.
(But, I have seen boats with the Marine UL rated extinguishers installed on their gunnels and consoles exposed with no external shade or cover).
In states where you get extreme temp changes in summer or winter, I would not leave anything on the bed without a cover. Just my thoughts.:)
