It looks like the oil drain plug is right above the skid plate on FX4 models. Is there any tool (like a special funnel) that can be used to keep the draining oil from pouring all over the skid plate and instead running into the drain pan? I'm sure that Ford mechanics won't want oil running out from everywhere off the skid plate.

SOP is to remove the skid plate. Alternatively you can get a fumoto and attach a hose to avoid that.

This is what I use instead of taking off skid plates. You can shape it however you want.

Do you have a source for that? It looks interesting.

If you do he fumoto, be sure to either get the 107n with the extension or the 107sx. I have the 107n and extension, but didn’t have the extension when I did the oil change, so both of these options are unconfirmed.

Mine came off one of the tool trucks. However, that pic came from Amazon. Search Form-A-Funnel or Flex Funnel.
They're pretty slick. And a quick spray off with brake cleaner cleans them right up, lay out flat in your tool box drawer.
Comes in small and large sizes.

http://fumotousa.com/

It's a drain valve that replaces the drain plug and you don't need tools to open and close it. I had one with a hose barb on it on my old Rangers because the Superlift cross bars and skid plate were below the oil pan and made one hell of a mess. A piece of hose made it so I could direct it around everything and into a drain pan.

Question....by “extension”, do you mean the 3/8” hose that connects to the nipple?

No, by "extension", I mean the metric threaded pipe extension with a male on one side and a female on the other that the Fumoto threads into so it clears the bottom of the oil pan.

The Fumoto website only goes to 2017 and no Ranger. How and where did you buy the correct one for the new Ranger?

As an alternative to the Fumoto valve look at the Valvomax valve. Uses a check valve type setup instead of the external lever of the Fumoto. Has a sealed cap and uses the hose connector to open the valve so it's easy to open and close. Last oil change I didn't need to remove skid plate. On other plus, US made.
