My '98 in 2018. Funny, I was just thinking today, I 'loved' that truck, and feel bad I only 'like' my 2019. I loved the working man's truck feel of the '98. It was like me, a little ugly, but always got the job done.

Had an ‘02 FX4 I picked up in mid 2019 that I was gonna build as a project truck. Ended up needing more work than I thought so sold it to another Ranger fan for parts.

Kind of want another from this gen.

Mazda B Series - same thing except for the badge on the front, right?

Hi Phil,

Ummm... No...more than just the badges. Mechanically the same but Mazda had some quirky changes in the interior trim etc. One of the awful changes was when they wanted leather seating but did not want to spend any money or effort to redo the seating foam/platform. The seat manufacturer said that the seats would look like crap. Mazda stood firm, so Lear built two seats and I installed them in a Ranger...they looked like shit...Mazda voted to "do it" and then went into production... not many were ordered or sold and it was a complete flop... Mazda blamed Ford/Lear. I stood my ground and told them they were told exactly what happened would be the result of not doing the revision the way it should have been done... They left the meeting tail between their legs. Their American lead, EM was a complete jerk in my estimation... A royal pain in the rear. Did not know his A$$ from a hole in the ground...

Best,
Phil

Interesting to hear what was going on behind closed doors! Thanks for the insight.

That's *exactly* how I feel/felt about my '98, too. It was a good, practical balance of just about everything.

This is actually my second Ranger as I don't have a pic of my first one.

1989. I swapped out the 2.9/FM146 transmission (boo) for a 4.0/M5OD combo (Yay!) which made it a MUCH better driver.

Thunderbird TurboCoupe seats (they bolted right in!) that were even the perfectly matching shade of blue for the interior.

This is with 6" lift and 33x12.50 tires.

Like others have mentioned, I really like my 2019 but I LOVED this truck. I really should have kept it.

And that is my brief foray into Chevrolets there behind it.

If the rest of the car had been as good as the engine I would've kept it forever. But the rest of the car SUCKED.

I've posted this a couple of times in various threads, but here's mine: A base model 2003 lovingly called the Gutless Wonder. Thanks to some incredible factory rebates, I was able to buy this thing brand new in high school. This little truck and I went through a lot together, and the hardest part of getting my new Ranger was giving this one up, even though it didn't really fit my needs anymore. Traded it in exactly 16 and a half years after I bought it.

A few months after trading it in, I found it just a couple blocks from where I was living at the time. I've since moved, but when I was back in town to take care of some business recently, I swung my old neighborhood just to take one more look at it, which earned me an eye-roll from my wife.

The last run of the 4G Ranger my 2011. Its very basic, not much to go wrong. Still have it. Just going through the front suspension. Re & Re the wheel bearings and tie rod ends. Still low miles at 105 KM Canada eh !
