I’d watch this first and make a judgment call based on your findings after.

Wow - that was long but it was really interesting. I didn't see the final findings however. Are they published somewhere?

He does have one other video out where he has a redesigned cover prototype. I assume that will be the end of the series if not he will test the new cover.

Pretty interesting test and I’m glad he did it. The hydrolic work created by a larger capacity cover and a poorly shaped cover definitely would increase fluid temperate and aeration.

This video was the main reason I didn't swap out my super duty cover. I have a different cover on my off road truck, but since the factory Explorer covers are composite or plastic (old ones we're this steel) I think a 1/2" thick cover is a little better banging up against rocks:cool:

Gale Banks is my idol. That guy is a damn genius! It's funny I just binge watched those videos before finding this thread.

those are out now and nice. Banks makes some now but sadly not for the Ranger. Theirs is designed to throw oil in the proper directions not just for bling.
Problem with the Ford Performance one is that it's cast iron. Aluminum is better for heat dissipation.

I dont like the AFE it's flat square surface is far from optimal for fluid flow.

So who lives in California close enough to convince Banks to use their Ranger as a test car for a Diff Cover ?
I will reach out to them. I am in Oxnard and have another vehicle to drive while they play.

Ford Perfmance clearly thinks heat isn't a problem enough to need aluminum, and opted for the immensely higher strength of cast iron.

Would have liked to see a mild overfill (aka "farm-fill") with the OEM cover differential cover, instead of just talk. I do this with all of our fleet trucks seems to make the dreaded Dana 80 pinion bearings last longer (no crush sleeve to preload the bearings, have to "feel" out the perfect amount of shims to get the break away just right).

Sorry buddy aluminum is often times stronger than cast iron and has a higher tensile strength, even cast aluminum, and can also take impacts better. Cast iron is notoriously brittle. Whether Ford performance's is cast that I don't know.
