I changed the oil in my 2011 F-150 3.5L Ecobeast when the computer told me to, never had any motor problems.

I'll do the same with this one.

Break in? I've always just driven it the way I drive from day 1 and never had an issue. As far as the 1st oil change goes I'll usually take it in a little earlier then normal, but usually go 2000-3000 miles on the first one. I always do 5000 mile changes after that.

I realize many have not gone enough distance to verify but is computer oil change signal dependant on how hard the engine is worked or is it set for distance only?
They program formulas to measure a lot of things. I can't remember where I read it but this is from the manual.

Your vehicle has an Intelligent Oil-Life
Monitor system, a message appears in the
information display at the proper oil
change interval. This interval may be up to
one year or 10,000 mi (16,000 km), hybrid
vehicles may exceed 10,000 mi
(16,000 km).
When the oil change message appears in
the information display, it is time for an oil
change. Make sure you perform the oil
change within two weeks or 500 mi
(800 km) of the message appearing. Make
sure you reset the Intelligent Oil-Life
Monitor after each oil change. See Oil
Change Indicator Reset (page 252).
If your information display resets
prematurely or becomes inoperative, you
should perform the oil change interval at
six months or 5,000 mi (8,000 km) from
your last oil change. Never exceed one year
or 10,000 mi (16,000 km) between oil
change intervals,
Your vehicle is very sophisticated and built
with multiple, complex, performance
systems. Every manufacturer develops
these systems using different
specifications and performance features.
That is why it is important to rely upon your
dealership to properly diagnose and repair
your vehicle.
We have recommended maintenance
intervals for various parts and component
systems based upon engineering testing.
We rely upon this testing to determine the
most appropriate mileage for replacement
of oils and fluids to protect your vehicle at
the lowest overall cost to you and
recommends against maintenance
schedules that deviate from the scheduled
maintenance information.

https://goldplug.com/#plugfinder. 2019 Ford's Ranger not listed yet FYI.

I've always used them, bikes and my trucks and have always had a metal soot on them when pulled.
95% or better of this motor is made from aluminum which isn't magnetic (duh), I'm not going with the gold plug, I'll (eventually) be putting in a fumoto drain if I can find the correct combination.

Best thing I can think of is change the first oil very early, use high quality full synthetic, then on the second interval change it mildly early, and consider it ready to thrash.

Mine will get done at 1000 miles just like my race motors

Then I'd probably use a magnetic oil filter sleeve, and probably for the first or second interval only. To each their own though.

These engines are test ran and ring seated then oil drained and re filled.

Regardless of type of oil they used it for break in and it takes more then one flush go get everything out of it which is why we recommend 1000miles.

Yes the oil filter catches most of it but it can not catch it all.

The owners manual asks for specific driving form because it is still finishing the break in procedure which can then cause more contaminants then 5000 miles later.

Next you'll be telling me I need a catch can.

We have many reasons as to why a catch can is good and bad. or how the stock pcv check valve actually leaks so going to a radium baffle and check valve is beneficial. its on another thread here.

I always changed my oil after the first 1000 miles. I always use Mobil 1. I change it every 6000 miles afterwards. Never had a engine problem using Mobil 1.
