With how light the tailgate is, we run the risk of it not opening on it's own with those assisted close dampers :)
The damper is chosen for the weight of the Tailgate since it's just a lift strut. No real danger of the Tailgate not opening.

FYI, I ordered this back in January and I got a second call a few days ago - they are not expecting it to ship now until April. This was from carid.com

I guess Ford isn't the only one with challenges on ship dates!

I just logged into my account at carid.com and it says:

Estimated Ship Date: May 03, 2019

I hadn't realized it, but I actually ordered this back in December - right after I ordered my truck. I haven't been too concerned about it, since I don't have my truck yet, but it looks like I will get my truck before I get this damper.

They are currently not built yet. Go to DEEZEE.Com. When DZ43206 comes up as a part then you know they are built, mid March then shipping to sellers then shipping to you unless you order direct from Dee Zee and eliminate the middle man.

Heard back from Deezee today and the product is still in R&D and the ETA is mid-June.

Spoke with CARiD Friday about my order for the tailgate damper, they said a ship date of April 8
will see if this holds true. Such a simple part.

I ordered the Dee Zee part (DZ43206) in late January and was told a ship date of 3/19. I checked with Carid yesterday and the chat person checked with Dee Zee and was told it would ship that day. I checked again today and he was told by Dee Zee that the part is not available yet. So Carid is doing a refund. Here is what he said: "It was not processed, part # on the order is a new one and it is not being sold so far. No estimated time for this to be added to the sales line. Asked for alternatives, but they carry nothing for the 2019 year models."
And from Dee Zee Support:
"According to my Research and Development team, they are still working on perfecting the DZ 43206 since this will be the first one we have made designed for the Mid-Sized vehicles. My current eta shows it being available mid-June. We certainly appreciate your patience and business."

So, no telling when one will actually be available.

I thought I'd give one of the international T6 Ranger kits a try that I find so plentiful on Ebay. Not sure if anyone had covered it yet, but figure I'd share my results. Unfortunately to my dismay it didn't work.

This is how the kit is supposed to mount:

The position/location on how it would mount is right, but the tailgate cable is flipped on the US version. Also note the black bracket on the 2nd picture, something we don't have. That in itself isn't a problem, but the Torx 50 bolt on the top side is a larger diameter than the one supplied in the kit.

In addition, it appears the latches that secure the tailgate to the body are different than the ones internationally. The bottom bracket for the damper didn't fit on the latch properly.

Kind of a bummer, but the price for the damper was only $16USD shipped. Despite those obstacles, I'm pretty confident I can make it work. Looking behind the tail lights, I found room for a bolt to fit if I mount it similar to how the Dee Zee is done.

Regards,

I mentioned a while back that the export ones are completely different. They designed the whole thing on the USA model.

Ah, I must've glazed over that. Admittedly I was more curious to see what the differences were.
