Tire/Computer Calibration?

kmartinusa

Probably a dumb question- I bought a 2019 Ranger
and immediately changed out the stock tires/wheels with 20” tires.

Do I need to do anything to tell the computer/speedometer that it’s got bigger tires?

Also I’m getting 16mph, we mostly drive on the highway. Seems a little low- does this sound about right?

Photos just because.

I’d drive it myself and give my 3/4T Ford if it had any power at all, it’s a very nice looking truck. Y’all should be be proud of yours- I’ve seen some killer pictures on here.

Thanks gang!

I had a double take then realized the first pic is an older pic of mine lol...I have 285s and adjusted the calibration with Forscan...

LOL- I was riding home from dinner last night with my son driving “his” truck when I wrote this, looked for pics of the truck in my phone and found...I guess yours. I must have done a screenshot of yours when I was picking out stuff, I can’t imagine why else it would be there.

I even mumbled something to him...”I thought I had some good pictures of your truck saved in here somewh...Oh, here’s one. Here’s another...we’re good.”

Nice looking truck, I guess I‘ll just leave it there now that it’s been claimed by its rightful owner.

Thanks, I'm flattered Kevin...BTW, have you looked into the recalibration with Forscan? After recalibrating, mine's within .5-1 mph at all speeds...indicated 71 on speedo is actual 70 GPS...

Sid how did you calibrate in Forscan? Changed the 726-12-01 value? If so do you get the U0422 code in Forscan? I've not seen anyone who has used Forscan that HASN'T gotten the code - but only in Forscan - it doesn't throw a CEL. Just curious.

It's been a while since I did this. I recall following someone else's formula to calculate the number value input. I'll have to dig back and search my posts when I was asking about this how to. I don't have any cels at all. Interesting that other's are though...

EDIT...I found it...I input in line 726-12-01: xxxx 09DC xxxx to adjust from 265/70-17 to 285/70-17 and all was good...

There isn't a CEL light but it does throw a U0422 code when you look in Forscan. Everyone I've seen who has done this same thing has this code. It doesn't show up on a code reader, just in Forscan.

If you are curious, hook up Forscan and see if it shows any codes. I'd be curious.

How much bigger did you go? I went from the stock 265/65R17 to 265/70R17 without adjusting anything and my speedometer is dead on my phone’s GPS reading.
