Hi Gavin,

You have never seen the vehicles from Mexico with between 14 to 16 mattres piled high on an F150 (older Mexico F150 called Lobo) Top mattres probably cleans the bottom of the overpass bridges on the way to the Nogales boarder crossing. I am guessing the folks down there must eat them for breakfast as this is very normal. We either stay way behind these trucks or blow past them as rapidly as possible. Worse are the trucks with refrigerators and washers and dryers piled two high and 5 or six deep.....Angle iron frame extensions abound, most being only tack welded. Traveling I19 is always an adventure southbound to Green Valley out of Tucson...

Hey Phil,

That’s pretty crazy! Haha. It definitely sounds like an adventure out there. I would like to see those sketchy loads in person, but not from behind. ? Stay safe out there.

Here's the SCAB with juuuuuuuust enough bed length to fit our stretched quad in the back.

This will be an art car for Burning Man and will carry a pair of 1/4 barrel kegs inside the frame and jockey-box-back-rest to deliver ice cold beer while we're working in harsh environments.

If you want to see this thing as it progresses into a full blown art car, you'll have to follow our personal build page where I put pics of the various projects we're doing with the Ranger or with the rest of the fleet.

SCAB build, Seattle WA

I run an art-car repair camp on-playa and this is the sort of stuff we work on: Sourced parts in the middle of the desert and replaced the distributor and ignition on a RAM 2500, then timing and tune. The RAM has been converted into Island Oasis.

Haha... So true! Here in San Diego you can see that all the time. There are also the trucks that have hit up every garage sale in town and are packed to the sky with ropes holding everything together. Many times the trucks look like the Leaning Tower of Pisa heading south on the freeway towards the border crossing.

Needed to dig a few post holes to install the trellis I built for my niece. I'm pleased to report that the auger rolling around in the bed did not hurt the Bullet Liner at all. Didn't even leave any marks...

Did a lot of "truck" stuff this weekend.
First load was some treated lumber and cedar lattice for the garden.
Second load was a bed full of firewood one of our family friends was trying to get rid of. This was certainly the most substantial load. Didn't hit the bump stops on the rough rural road home but it was probably pretty close, could definitely feel the extra weight.
Third load was $400 worth of plants for the garden.
And fourth load was 15 bags of cedar mulch to cover the garden.

Picked up some landscape supplies to finish up the landscaping in front of the house. Kinda fun to put the Ranger to work a little.

Moved my girlfriend out of her old apartment over the weekend with the Ranger.

All loaded up!

Made it out of San Francisco and over the Golden Gate, doublechecking the straps before hitting the curves on Highway 1.

Maneuverable trucks make for easy unloading!

Not pictured is the backseat packed to the brim with books, paintings, valuables, and fragiles including a huge mirror. It wasn't a ton, but it was my first time testing this truck out doing what it's made for. The 2.3l didn't care at all. No lack of power, and I almost forgot about the load with with the way it pulled up those tight uphill corners along the coast. City + highway with a lot of windy up & downs still got me 21.9 MPG. I'll take it, and I'm still glad I bought this truck!

Two pallets worth of sinks for portable toilets

(there's 20 sinks in both photos)

I had four pallets (40 units) to move and I was determined to make 20 sinks fit at a time to save myself a trip. They were jammed in so tight I didn't even have to strap them down! I could've fit 21 on the second trip after I had some loading practice haha

Nose is up a little bit with 515 pounds in the bed. Along with FPP leveling kit.
I could definitely tell it was back there, but not a problem at all.

Thanks, it was a fun project. Did you do the Ford rod restore ?
Yes im still working on the model A. Car was built 25 years ago and im in the middle/end of the complete restore and upgrades. Hopefully I get to road test my brake system today. I have never restored a mini trail but have done several CT ,SL ,and CRF 70's and a ATC 110 and a Yamaha BW80. Good luck with the 50 they are highly desirable and bring great money. Bret
