I have not seen it in person but from all the info I have seen, this is a big truck. Not like the previous generation at all. I am not impressed. Looks like the Ranger has gone back to it's roots and is now a regular sized truck from the 70's with a lighter weight and smaller engine. Like the transition of the Mustang from 73 to 74, everything is made with lighter materials, and is under powered for the size. People will demand a V8 option and you can bet...that a V8 will be offered in 2020. I am so glad I continue to own my 2008 Ranger XLT with less than 40K on the OD. It's small enough for the city yet able to haul a 4X8 sheet of plywood or tow 10K. I suppose I will hold on to my Ranger for a little longer...

It's basically the same size as the SportTrac, which is 210"Lx73"Wx71"H.

I was thinking the same thing. Maybe if you remove the body and drop a V8 and pray to the truck gods while towing downhill with the wind?

Not a review video, but... It looks like stock video provided by Ford that someone slapped terrible music on.

The first half of the video is new to me at least.

First half looks a lot like Colorado.

Nope, the 2008 Ranger maxes out at 6,000lbs towing capacity when properly equipped (Source: https://www.motortrend.com/cars/ford/ranger/2008/2008-ford-ranger-first-look/). It also only has 207hp, 238lb-ft of torque V6 (note even back then, there wasn't a v8), and got 14/21* MPG. Also note that in the past 10 years, the EPA fuel economy calculations have been much harsher in an attempt to better align with real world fuel economy.

The no-option max price was $24,350 (Source: https://www.autotrader.com/Ford/Ranger/2008), and calculating the annual inflation of 1.62%, resulting in a 17.46% (Source: http://www.in2013dollars.com/2008-dollars-in-2018) overall inflation since 2008, that price today would be $28,601.51. This would be for the FX4 Supercab Off-road package. Today's closest comparator, the Lariat FX4 supercab, is $38,600. So the top of the line is quite a bit more. The cheapest 2008 Ranger was $18,450, or $21,671.37, compared to the entry XL 4x2 at $24,300 today. This represents a 12% - 35% real world price increase on the truck over the past decade. But when you consider the list of standard features and government regulations and fuel economy increases that go into this price increase, it's at least a reasonable price increase, and I would argue that we're getting so much more truck for the price increase.

Nice I like the Fast Lane guys so I was looking forward to their video.
I appreciate their videos as well, unfortunately the driving embargo doesn't lift until next Tuesday so we'll have to wait for that.

Wish the tailgate was dampened. I suppose you can’t add it all in the first year.

There are pretty cheap kits to add this. That was one thing on the Tacoma that I really liked.
