Then: 1967 Ford Mustang coupe. I bought this car when I was 16 and it was a money pit but was lots of fun (when it was running). Originally came with a straight 6, 3 speed and drum brakes with the smaller rear end. By the time I was done with it, the car had a 302 Ford Racing crate motor, AOD transmission, 9" rear end with 3.55 gears and a locker, power disc brakes all around, new shocks, springs, wheels, tires, dash was signed by Carroll Shelby (the only thing I regret getting rid of)...Like I said, it was fun, but was a money pit and not practical to drive daily (and with no A/C was miserable in the summer) so I sold it and was able to get through college debt free because of it. I definitely plan on getting another one as a for fun weekend car some day. After that I owned a 2001 Ford Taurus for about 6 years (because I'd never dream of modifying it and was super practical and had air conditioning!) and then bought a 2010 Ford Fusion in 2012 which I had until November of last year when I bought my Ranger.

Now: 2019 Lightning Blue FX4. This is the first new car I've ever bought. I love this truck and it is my favorite vehicle I've owned, including the Mustang.

First car, '62 or '63 Fairlane. My Dad had a good friend who ran a body shop/towing service. $65 with the promise of a "Heinz Brown" paint job after about 20 lbs of bondo and aluminum flashing! Oh yeah, had to install the tranny that was stored in the trunk. 3 spd auto in place of the 2 speed Fordomatic. Couldn't find a pic of the car after it was painted. One rainy afternoon in early June of 1977 it carried 7 scrawny teenagers to see some new movie called Star Wars.

My first car out of high school was a 1968 Mercury Cougar - but I didn't keep it very long, and don't have a picture of it. I then bought a 1970 VW Beetle (sticker price $1,800). At the time my Dad, sister and brother all owned Beetles. The picture shown doesn't include my sisters, and mine is the yellow one at the end. That was my pride and joy car - kept it all thru college.

In my 'nearly broke and desperate' days (1976), my Mom and Dad gave me a 1963 Ford Fairlane coupe they bought from our neighbors. It served me well, and gave me some breathing room to get caught up.

That photo is great. My wife had '68 or '70 Beetle in high school and my brother-in-law had a Baja; granny-in-law had a '68; father-in-law had a Thing. Wife's family was big on VWs.

After I graduated college, I sold mine and bought a 1968 VW Van with a sunroof. I did some minor mods to the interior to make into something similar to the Vanagon. Traveled the continental US over the summer - trying to make a visit to every state that I could. The heads began to separate, and I had to make a bee-line for home, so I never made it to the west coast.

When the New Beetle came out, I really wanted one, but couldn't justify it. But in 2004, I ran across a 2000 Yellow one that had been lovingly taken care of, and bought it. Held onto it for about 4 years, and let it go.

My first cqr. '49 Chevy bought for $10 to ride in the fields and woods behind my house. I was 13 but already a Ford fan since my uncle was a Ford service manager.

My first new truck. '75 F-100. My wife said I could buy this or a Triumph TR6 I was longing for. I went the practical route.

My last truck before the Ranger. A '13 F-450 Lariat with a RV Hauler body

I spent my high school years driving my dad's beetle, and then started driving the VW minibus in college. I also modified the interior to make it more like a camper, and had some wonderful road trips and vacations all along the West Coast. They only thing that I did not like about them, even then, was that they were so under-powered that going up hills was a challenge, and the more people that were in the bus beyond the driver, the harder it was. (Really, you could feel the difference between carrying just the driver and one single passenger.) I still remember being honked at by other (understandably angry) drivers who were caught behind me on inclines (probably some of them in Rangers, now that I think about it)!

My first car a 1967 Fairlane GT 390 4 speed. Many in between throughout the years. And some of the ford products in no particular order.

Surprisingly one I really miss too. 2004 Crown Vic with addco sway bars. What a terrific, comfortable car.
