Yellow coolant, 7/19 build.

Anyone know the difference between yellow and orange ‘cept the color? And why the change mid year?

Besides trying to trip up we Ranger owners, I believe the Yellow has a longer service life than the Orange.
Or they ran out of Orange colorant....

Found this excellent video, it clarifies coolant colors:

It's not the coolant you should worry about carrying but the stop leak solution.

So those of you who got the yellow coolant appear to have a 200,000 mile initial service interval. What does your manual say? The Orange has a 100,000 mile initial service interval.

You can use that stuff in your cooling system, I never will use that crap in any of my vehicles.

My asinine 2020 manual calls for Orange coolant.
I've never seen any such manual so riddled with mistakes to the point where I do not believe anything it says.

Don't ask me why, but this really intrigued me - anyway, the website referenced in that video shows Orange prior to 7/8/2019 and yellow after that:

https://www.fcsdchemicalsandlubricants.com/quickref/coolantsEN.pdf

They did similar things for other models, changing the coolant from Orange to Yellow mid year. It just seems weird to me, as the yellow has twice the service interval.

Time to get Phil involved....

Phil, why the change of coolant and the difference in color?

Inquiring minds want to know? :inspect:

Based on that video, I can answer the second question - the color has to do with the formulation and for the most part it seems like how long the coolant lasts. The Orange has a 100k initial service life and 50k after that. The Yellow has a 200k initial service life and 100k after that.

I don't know why they would change mid year like that though. That seems weird, unless they got a better deal on the longer lasting coolant (yellow)??? Seems like it should be more expensive.

This is off thread, but I could not help but noticing that substantial looking device hanging from your garage wall. What is it?

What is this, 1950? How could anyone possibly need coolant already?
Try owning a late model Subaru with the H-4 Engine my old 2017 Forester loved to go through coolant and oil. Dealer said its normal for a Subaru

Hi Jay,

Yep...Brother-in-law had the same problem...Normal... Brother will not drive anything but a Subaru. Did I say my brother-in-law is a piece of work?
He hates Ford, but has never owned one and I can give him Z plan to save a ton of money... Oh well...his loss.

Best,
