Might be a dumb question...

Need a couple cubic yards of dirt for a back yard project... Anyone have advice on a 2019 Crew Cab’s max recommended load for hauling dirt? I know the max pay load, but I don’t know much about cubic yard/dirt weight. Any help/insight is greatly appreciated.

Depends on the dirt. Topsoil weighs around 2000. Dirt can weigh upwards of 3000+ depending on its makeup.

Thanks. Likely using fill dirt for the yard...

Sounds like it might be best to have it delievered?

Or make multiple trips. If you load it yourself be conservative; if you go to a yard they are generally pretty good at knowing how much to load and can help you out.

The bucket on my tractor holds one cubic yard. I have been told that that much clay would be around 1500 pounds. Maybe that information will be helpful.

Check your tire pressures and frame/bump stop clearance. If you can, drive slow.

I hauled about 2k lbs of fill in my 15 Colorado which was over payload capacity. Aired tires to 44 lbs since the frame was resting on the bump stops. Luckily I was able to stay off main roads and drive a lot slower.

My recommendation- rent a trailer. I’ve done this exact thing when I had my Nissan Frontier, it did it but when they dropped the dirt I was expecting the shocks to come blowing out the back of the truck :surprised:

Ended up throwing a tarp down in the back and over the sides and did a little more than a half ton scoop into it. The guy at the yard loading it was super careful not to dump on my bed rails (had to remove my Gator Hard TriFold cover but left the rails to it on). He did a great job and just to be safe I took it slow on the way home. Worked out great and the truck handled it more than fine. Even in the small bed I had plenty of space and couldn’t even tell there was much of a load in the bed driving home. Saved $130 too.

Thanks for the input.

Won't know until you try it. Take a photo and let us know the outcome.
