Im OCD when it comes to these things and I hear the buzzing like crazy. Just hit 1000 miles and I swear it wasn’t there before. It did get a lot colder where I live as well. But how can what sounds like a kid putting a card in his bicycle spokes be normal?

I’m with you Steveman84. It sounds horrible and the buzz is completely, totally, and unmistakably there all the time. I live in Northern California, and even on 100°+ days, the buzz is always the same. For me, the outside temp changed nothing. After 5k miles, I’m somewhat use to the sound, but I still don’t like it. My wife can’t stand it and it’s all she hears when we are traveling somewhere. It’s a sound that will eventually cause me to get rid of this truck which, other then the buzz from the fuel pump, I absolutely love. I keep hoping Ford recognizes the annoying buzz as an issue but I’m not holding out hope that they care.

Luckily my wife is one of those “doesn’t notice things” people. I had her listen and she’s like “huh? I don’t hear anything”. But for me having paid what I did for this truck (I got some good rebates in December so not too bad) I expect better. I LOVE my truck but it’s really crappy that is sounds like something is rattling in my truck. Outside it doesn’t sound like a rattle just the clicking which I get I had a fusion with the 2.0 ecoboost before and was used to it, but it didn’t have the buzzing/rattle inside.

The DI injectors are super loud in the Ranger. Even more so in cold starts, where it sounds like they're running in split-injection mode. Much louder than the RS. Or perhaps less insulated (even with the Lariat engine cover.)
I wouldn't say super loud...ever listen to some the foreign DI engines? Slight buzz at low rpms as long as smooth an congruent is just a 4cyl trait. Ranger has heavy engine cooling an tends to take a bit to warm up ...this is not a bad thing!

Shouldn't sound like anything is rattling in engine bay of ur truck!? Not normal. Mine is smoooooth an quiet. As have the last 4 EcoBoost engine equipped Fords weve owned. Superior tech. Take it to dealer. Change ur oil. Use only 5w30 or 0w30 (colder climates) SN+ rated oils & PROPER oil filter. If what u say is true (cause alot of the foreign truck folks dont want see Ranger succeed .. it will tho ..its better) then take it in an have checked out real well. #NoTrolls

Yep, my truck makes this noise and yes it can be distracting/annoying. Its noticed more on cold days, below 30F. I first suspected it was caused by an electronic relay switching on/off since it only appears when touching the gas pedal. The sound also seems to be emitting from under the dash but originating from the engine bay. At this point having read through all the posts I'll have to concede that it is a "characteristic" sound of the fuel injectors. FYI - I test drove many Rangers before purchase and they all had the radio turned on every time, curious if the dealers know of this "noise" and are being informed to mask it by turning the radio on ?

It’s not random at all it’s ONLY when pushing the gas pedal and it’s basically what everyone here is describing. One of the videos earlier in the thread where the person was inside the car under the steering wheel recording? Yup that’s the sound. As the person below me said. It Really sounds like it’s coming from inside but it’s not. I had my wife press the gas while I listened to the engine bay and the sound out there is nothing like what you hear inside the truck.

I have the buzz as well. Was it determined it’s the fuel injection? Mine is the same complaint as everyone else. I love the truck, but the buzz drives me nuts.

Hi Folks,

I do not have this noise. Being an NVH Technical Specialist at Ford for many years, I am wondering if the Lariat hood blanket is installed on the XLT and XL models. I know the engine cover Lariat only. Does the XLT and XL have this hood blanket? It is a very good sound barrier but do not know if this is available on the XLT or XL. If not, it might be a worthwhile upgrade to consider.

Yea to me inside the truck it really sounds like a buzzing noise. And really only in low acceleration. Cruising at 70 on the freeway I don’t hear it even with everything off but there may be enough other noise to mask it. I’d check the engine bay for something moving causing it but I wouldn’t even know where to begin and being that it sounds like I’m not the only one. It may be a fruitless endeavor and just something I have to live with.

I can confirm that my XLT has the blanket mounted to the underside of the hood and still have the buzz which seems to be coming from the footwell every time the gas pedal is depressed.

I just recently noticed this noise. Kinda made me paranoid. Then I found this thread and read that everyone is kind of noticing it too. So I went to the dealer and drove an xlt and a lariat and me and my salesman that lets me take whatever I want out, both confirmed that they all make it. So made me feel a little better about it.
