That looks like a good setup. Are you building it out of steel or aluminum?

I got the plans from another Ranger5g Member (HoosierT). It is a nice rack. I want Aluminum, but my fab buddies, welder crapped out so I may have to use steel.

Now the question is how tall. I would enjoy an adjustable that would be anywhere from 5-8 inches from box edge. Since this will solid I had to mock up each to try and decide.

The one marked 4" sits right at the height for the rear window opening (Which is a good option for long things.

I think the lowest one looks best, unless you need more bed space under if there’s anything specific you’ll be hauling?

If you’re wondering why I went 10” with the design I sent you. It’s about the shortest I could go and still use the side panels for maxtrax and rotopax. If you want to mount either of those, you’ll want no less than 10” tall. If not, go shorter for sure IMO.
Here’s how the 10” looks on my truck. I just don’t have completed pics up yet.

HoosierT, I like the rack, but don't anticipate installing Rotopac. Your plans are great.

I still have not decided what height. If I go shorter, I will have to extend the main cross bars.

After I mocked this up, I decided to see what it would be like at different heights.

Gave me a chance to show my wife that as I lower the rack the cross bars must extent to keep the weight on the box correctly.

is he welding in situ?

that would be balzy AF. I hope he's got stuff there to protect your truck. like a force field of some kind.
Yes he was. He’s very good at what he does, not a drop touched my truck.

Did you buy this? What brand, Cost?
I built it,

I should say I overbuilt it. 3/8? thick square tube 4inches by like 3/4inches. 3/16 base plates, and 3/4-10 bolts cause I like em chunky. Had it powdercoated for basically free cause they messed up the color but its close enough the the Metallic trim I was ok with it.

what is the weight?
they are pretty fucking heavy, I think each bar is between 25-30 lbs with hardware. But god did it make it easier to weld using thick metal with my shitty harbor freight welder.

A Miller TIG is on my list here soon, i can only flux core zap so many things.

Here’s the rack finished if you want to see the height. Too cold here to paint it this weekend but I’ll get it done this week. Final weight is 38lbs.

That is fantastic. My buddy can not make it out of Aluminum after all, I was going to see what it will cost to get is made by a local MFG, but decided not to provide them your plans. Looks like I will not have one after all.. Looks fantastic!
