What did you do to your Ranger today?

I don't know if it's just truck people. Everyone's first instinct when their car dies on the road is to open the hood. Even if they don't know what they're looking for. It only make the situation worse for customer experience when they can't see a thing.

Anyway...my problem has been solved with a bit of wiring up LED and a switch

It only take one company to start installing this simple feature (again) and everyone will be on board..

Kind of like a tailgate damper. You really don't know you need one until you've had one before.

That being said... you can often pick one these up at Harbor Freight for free... it has a hook and is bright and has a magnet. Free and easy... hard to beat.

What if you're trying to jump a car without a flash light?

So you've got the foresight to put jumper cables in the car, but not a flashlight? Also, you need a second car, and that one probably has headlights...

LOL...ok you guys win...I'm happy with my install and not have to look for my flash light to check under my hood...best of all, I now have both hands free to work

It cost me $9 LED light bar from Amazon and some free left over wiring from other lighting kits...took me about 30 minutes to hardwire it...

my phone, that i use to start my truck...has a flashlight app....

if I'm needing under my hood where it's beyond black, my trucks likely in such bad shape, I dont think I'll even need to open the hood..I'll just use my phone, (with the starting app, and a flashlight) that also has roadside assistance, to call someone with a tow truck to help me out. If he's so inclined to pop the hood, i bet he has lots of light(s).

I guess i am just throwing this out there because I consider the description of "disturbing" alot different.
Disturbing is finding a dead animal in your grill. Not having a light, is at best a downer.

Try doing anything with two hands, while holding your phone flashlight. Its a real fun time.

Ford couldn't be bothered to add in a $1 light strip and a switch to have something cars have had for my entire life. What else did they decide that we didn't need anymore? That's a disturbing thought on a truck you bought 2 weeks ago.

I for one am not upset at no under good light or glovebox light. Actually ain’t even upset about no ambient lighting (though I miss that from my focus).

This allows me for more customization and I’ve got some plans for this. I’ve wanted a ford truck my whole life and now at 37 I have one. I’m like a kid in a candy store right now (have been since I bought it). Hoping to start doing customizations come this next spring and summer.

At this point if I break down and have to open the hood something is seriously broken and it’ll more than likely need a tow anyways

Yep, when I started hiking and got a headlamp, I realized how convenient they are. There’s light wherever I point my head rather than a fixed light leaving shadows in places. I now wear my headlamp every time I’m under my truck working on something and keep one in my truck for any time I might need a light, including for under the hood.
For anyone who cares to purchase a high quality headlamp for the same purpose, I recommend a Zebralight.

PREACH! I love those headlamps but they’re not everyone’s forte. They come in handy while I’m messing around under the beater car and they’re lifesavers.

I’m also surprised that there’s no underhood light and I will likely add one to my truck sometime in the near future. Even just running out of washer fluid or something and filling it outside it would be handy to have.
