I actually used Mobile One Extended Performance oil & a Mobile One oil filter which IMO is a great oil as well at the 5,000 miles. After 10,000 I started using Pennzoil Ultra Platinum & a Motorcraft FL-910S. If I can not find the Motorcraft FL-910S in stock I used a Wix 51348XP.
I read & saw videos that showed Pennzoil Ultra Platinum was just behind Amsoil for wear protection & because it's made from natural gas it's supposed to be cleaner. Personally I feel any good synthetic oil is good for our trucks as long as they get regular oil changes. I just prefer Pennzoil Ultra Platinum oil. I also saw a you tube video from a Certified Ford Technician under the name FordTechMakuloco. His video makes sense. He said NOT to wait 10,000 miles because the filter screen in the turbo lines can get dirty & cause the turbo to overheat & fail. I change my own oil for a couple of reasons.... Some shops overtighten the oil filter instead of hand tight, some overtighten the drain plug where I tighten to torque spec of 25-30 ft torque.
I used to work in a Ford Dealership in the Parts Dept & I saw people come in for service because they overtightened their oil drain plug & stripped the oil pan & I saw new oil change kids do the same. Last when I would sell Motorcraft Full Synthetic oil I caught a technical stealing the full synthetic oil & use it in his own vehicle that I had sold to the customer & put conventional oil in the customers vehicle. That is the main reason I change my own oil to make my synthetic oil goes into my vehicle. Synthetic oil does not break down as quick as conventional oil in heat, it flows better in cold weather for start ups, & it keeps our engines cleaner inside. Sorry that was so long. I hope that helps
I was just curious as I bought mine with 4,000 miles on it and have used the ultra platinum since that point. I have talked to Ford mechanics that have switched from mobil 1 to this oil because of what you stated about being that highly rated. It always is the case the person doing the oil changes is always the lowest paid if at a dealership. I have worked in three different dealerships and have seen some real disasters from the oil tech.

I was a Benz tech and I sure have seen my share of hacks and crooks. Not all of them are like that but it just takes a few bad apples. I always worry about who will be working on my Truck when I take it in. I still take it to the dealer for liability reasons. If they mess it up, they are more likely to make things right.

My worst nightmare happened and I am getting an engine replaced at 50k miles, they didn't question me one bit as I did all my oil changes there every 5k w/full synthetic, all stock other than a K&N Filter. Going on 5 weeks at the dealer but at least they have me in a loaner. I don't mention it to worry people, I am certain I just had some bad luck as it was probably a covid engine but I am glad the dealer did all the oil changes because it was a rod bearing issue that caused the knock. Man, if I had to show proof of oil changes and such, it would have been a more stressful situation.

It rough that these newer vehicles are not like the old days...
Engine done, swoop it out, Trans done swoop her out.
And we're talking hundred not thousands with relative availablity.

Now a days I'm not sure you could even locate a new engine or transmission
for a Ranger regardless of price. Used, reconditioned????
I like to think there would be a way to hold on to my Ranger for the long haul.

I guess if worst comes to worst...just buy an older Ford Pickup

Yes not all technicians are bad. I do know a lot of good ones too. Just for peace of mind i rather do the oil change myself. Its pretty simple but i do use an oil filter socket. I have the technology package. It let me add service records with a receipt up until the end of May 2024. It won't let me record my self service anymore. I always order thru Amazon so I always have my receipts. I'm at 82883

After high school I test drove a 79 or 80 F250 Ranger LIFTED on 44" Gumbo monster mudders, Mom went with me, she had to use a 3 step ladder and still needed a push to get in lol. That's the only vehicle I've ever drove that I watched the gas gauge move when I mashed the gas...had a 460 4 barrel in it. Gas was about .80 cents a gallon and even then I couldn't afford to feed that beast as a daily driver lol. And yes I'm clear that being around when gas was that price makes me old as hell LOL my arthritis tells me often.

I'm old too. I remember being late for work waiting for gas for 2 hours in 1979 in my 1973 Ford Broncos on 32 inch tires that got 8 mpg.

Mine's a 6, Gen 3. Fortunate that the 2.4" tires came on it. Love the quality of Trek bikes! Bought it last year after my Dawes 1500 (UK bike) got stolen. Carry a chain now to try and deter another theft.

Well at least my 1990 Bronco got 10 mpg ??. I swear every time I filled that 32 gallon tank up I could hear a great sucking sound coming from my wallet. During the 1st Gulf War gas here hit $4 a gallon for the cheap stuff and I just couldn't afford it, that's when I bought the Escape. One thing about that 351 Windsor motor, it got 10 mpg no matter what you where doing. In town, road trips, 55 to 80 it didn't care. I even drove it to Wisconsin from Indy pulling a cutty cabin boat that had 7 peoples luggage in the boat and 4 people in the Bronco, 70 mph and 10 mpg.

Had a buddy at the Department giving me crap because he had a year 1993 Bronco with a 302 and he got 17 mpg, but then he bought a big boat and towed it several hundred miles and said he got 11 mpg, Karma! ??

Well, in 2001 in CA gas was $0.99/gal for 91 thankfully because my daily driver was a 66 Mustang, then with the 289 and 3spd manual lol (still have it). Man I would just love it if 91 got down to $3.00/gal for 91 here in NV. Would cover a good amount of my coffee expenses.

My 1973 had dual tanks& needed them at 8mg with 4:56 gear ratio & 32 inch tires.
