Where did I write that I didn't care? What I wrote was...

Thanks.

So what's to prevent a hacker from gaining access to this and stealing anybodies truck?
If someone wants something bad enough they're going to find a way to steal it. If they're smart enough to do that I think they'll be able to steal your truck without hacking into your app. ;) :)

Your post came off as a rhetorical question. If you do not have a smart phone which is the only place to use the FordPass app, then I do not see why you would care at all.... which is why I asked why you would even post.

Hmm, not sure how you are saying it's rhetorical when I wrote:

So as a guy that doesn't have a smart phone........... do I even care? (Seriously... What's my skin in this game?)

So if it is not rhetorical, my answer to your question is no you should not care and do not have any skin in this game. I am genuinely curious as to why you want to keep posting for something that is not of relevance to you.

You can't drive the truck without the key, even if you start it with the app. If someone can get around that, they didn't need the app to steal the truck anyway.

It's not rocket science.

I'm merely asking questions to which I don't know the answer. most folks thus far have been helpful and not questioned my motives.

I just chatted with the good folks at Ford. They said every new Ford vehicle has FordPass, so it is relevant

Thanks Mike, I didn't know that. I don't have remote start on my XL.

When you remote start your truck either from the app or the key fob you'll still need the key or fob if keyless. If you step on the brake without either the truck will shut off preventing someone from just jumping into your truck and driving off. I wouldn't run out and get a smartphone just to use the Ford app,I don't think you will see any benefit from it.

Anytime John.

I think technology is one of those love/hate things. Once you adapt to it you love it when everything is working but when there's problems you want to smash your device on the floor! lol

It's words on a screen man, very easy to misunderstand what some people's intent is or even tone of what they are trying to say. Sorry it got riled up, have a good one.

I've done this many times myself, especially in text messages. That's where emojis come in handy. :)

It's been the same procedure in all other vehicles in the last almost 10 years I've owned that has had a keyless start. Subaru Foresters (2 of them), Ford (Explorer and now Ranger) You need to have the fob with you and press on the brake and then the keyless start button to be able to drive.

Agreed.

I had smart phones when I was working man, company phones I didn't pay for. Less is more, anything I can do to eliminate a monthly payment, I'm all in. At some point though, the way the world is going, it looks like having one is inevitable.

Actually longer than that...lol I've had remote starts in all my vehicles since they came out years ago. I was just explaining it to John as he's doesn't have one and also doesn't have a smartphone. Personally I couldn't live without one after having one all these years.
