Pretty cool video on how they built up this Ranger to be a desert racer. With all that money sunk into it they should've just bought a Ranger Raptor. :giggle:?

The folks behind the Donut Media YouTube channel purchased a rather beat-up, high-mileage Ford Ranger back in early February, and since then, have been hard at work transforming it into a proper desert racer. As one might imagine, this is no easy or inexpensive task, and in fact, DM has spent a significant amount of money buying up fancy parts and installing them on their compact pickup over the past few months. Now, some time later, they’re finally putting a proverbial bow on this pricey project.

In total, the Donut crew claims that they’ve sunk a whopping $100,000 into their Ford Ranger desert racing project, which is a staggering sum – particularly when we consider how cheap it was to purchase the actual truck itself in the first place. With pretty much everything installed at this point – and even a fresh wrap covering its new flanks – it’s time to put the finishing touches on this Ranger by taking it out to the desert and fine-tuning the new suspension setup.

When it comes to individual components, this Ford Ranger build consists of $15,000 worth of suspension upgrades, $5,000 in beefy brakes, an $18,000 interior, a $50,000 engine, and an $8k body kit. Now that the hard work is done, it’s time to take this pricey build out to Mexico for the NORRA 500, where it will be subjected to 500 miles of some of the most grueling conditions on earth – and with any luck, it’ll live up to the hype, as well as its lofty price tag.

With some savvy negotiation, possibly 2 RR lol.
lol Right!

Now they should do a head to head test with a Ranger Raptor to see how it compares to this one. This one's all done up with some sick suspension and engine mods but it'd be fun just to see them on a course together.

been watching this series since they started it. pretty fun and just nuts how much they've spent on it.
instead of a Ranger Raptor, I'm wondering if they should have just built the whole thing from scratch and grabbed some misc body parts from a junkyard to make it look like "something"

this, much like the rest of those race trucks, is no longer a ranger . . . it is a mutilated monster.

lol

For donut that is a "100k" investment in content. I doubt there is actually 100K invested though, simply because, I assume 100K is MSRP of a lot of the parts, or normal price of labor for the services they outsourced, they likely got for way less to get them on the truck and mentioned in the videos.

Yep I watched the build, you can tell it was a learning experience for the team. They had couple sponsors so that would eat into the cost as well.

Their ranger can handle huge ruts going 70+ which was cool to watch.

I think this was a go big project that was the final project for several of the regulars on the channel and a way to introduce into a larger part of the channel new hosts.

And yeah, I'm sure they didn't pay full price (if they paid at all) for any of those parts... Plus it also included a day with the king field team to tune the suspension in the field.... ?

It was an entertaining build... Especially when I got to arm chair quarterback some of their decisions. ? You're going to try and do what with what?!?! ?
