I cannot remember which version of Sync I have, but I updated it last year. This last week every time I start my truck, it is playing the last radio station that it was set to AND it is on Day Mode.

I have gone into the basic settings to put it back to night mode, but it goes back to day and radio station every time I start.

Ideas?

it happens to me too. I just turn off ignition, open the door, turn ignition back on. then everything goes back to normal

my clock was also doing hour ahead then hour behind game for a week

I still have the original factory SYNC from the factory 9/2019... I'm scared to update and see what messes up next

Hold down the FF and power button for 10 seconds to reset it. It might fix it. You shouldn’t lose any stations.

Yeah I thought the same thing. No dice. Appreciate the idea, though.

I have a 2021 model, about 3 months ago it was going through an OTA update via Wi-Fi from home. It took a little over a week to completely download because of range, speed etc. It acted weird for a couple of days until it finally installed itself. Then all works fine now. Not the same symptoms you’re seeing but could be related.

Do you have the 4" center screen or the 8" with the touch screen? I posted this:

https://www.ranger5g.com/forum/threads/rdt-ranger-daylight-time.3825/

a while back when I noticed the clock on my system (standard 4" non touch screen) would jump forward an hour or two or back an hour or two around the times we changed the clocks. Updating sync back in December seems to have eliminated this. Mine is a 2019 that I got in April of 2019. I've noticed no downsides to the update.

I have a 2019 XLT with 42K miles. I changed the battery when I first got a warning on it at about 36K miles. This past month, when I turn on the ignition, the radio comes on, which it never did before. I stream rather than listen to the radio for the most part, and each time I have to select my phone from the sources. That is just a minor irritation.

Twice this last week, the latest being yesterday, the radio came on and I was unable to turn it off, and the screen went black. Turning it off, removing the key and opening and closing the door made no difference. I found on this thread (thanks Canyonslicker) the soft reboot fix (on/off button and fast forward button held for 10 secs) which did reboot it each time. After the first time I experienced this issue, I went into the SYNC settings and checked to see that I have the latest update. I have auto-update selected, so did not believe have to take any action. Is it possible there is a bug in the update? I did the GPS update last year via USB stick that I ordered from Ford; that worked fine.

I have driven the truck for over three years with very little difficulty but I rely heavily on the SYNC system for GPS guidance. Is this issue worth a trip to the dealer to check out? Is there a physical update to the SYNC system that must be performed despite the SYNC system thinking it is up to date? I have the super-wham-o-dyne extended warranty (it was a certified pre-owned vehicle).

Thanks

9/17 Update

After getting the black screen of death repeatedly, and the soft reset not working until the third or fourth try, I contacted my local dealer. They have a tech they apparently share with other dealers to solely work on electronic gadgets. I was pleasantly surprised by this dealer service department. I couldn't make an appointment to have the SYNC system looked at, it was first come, first served. The service writer got me in quickly and a short time later came to tell me that a new module had been ordered for it. Painless, and a breath of fresh air from the dealer where I bought the truck.

It took a month, but the dealer finally called to tell me that the module had come in on 10/16/23, thirty one days after the part was ordered. I took it in to have it installed the next day and it has worked fine ever since. Then.... Before I got the new module installed, I had ordered the SYNC Map Upgrade from Alom, Ford's vendor for maps. I got the thumb drive update a few days later and on Monday this week, I tried to install it. I was met with an error code, which indicated the ESN the thumb drive was matched to didn't match the ESN on my truck. I called the Ford Customer Service number listed on the error notice and learned that my ESN had been recently changed - that was when the penny dropped. I had ordered the map upgrade before the new module was installed. The dealer made no mention of the new ESN when I got the truck back last week. I have emailed Alom and thrown myself on their mercy, begging them to send me the upgrade for the new ESN.
