I have an XLT with 302A and the technology package. One thing I wish I had was rain sensing wipers. Is it possible to add these? Is it a module? Just a Forscan setting? (Not optimistic on the latter)

Thanks!

There is most likely a rain sensor on the windshield for this, thats how other models worked in the past.

I'll have something shortly... 3d Printed a cover, sits to the left of the mirror much like many Toyotas and is enabled via FORSCAN. The factory hole is cover by FRIT (The Black Ceramic Paint) and can not be removed, unless you want to replace your windshield at the same time.

I believe those usually have sensors inside the glass. Could be wrong here

Maybe it uses the front facing camera?

Have you driven a vehicle with auto wipers yet? I have and I despise them.

While I don't love rain sensing wipers, I like that I have them. Not perfect, but, what is?

I'm curious why you despise them? They are certainly not perfect, but IMO they are better than constantly changing the wiper speed with varying amounts of rain.

I love mine. I thought they use the cameras to regulte the speed based on percentage of rain drop density. Could be wrong though. .

You are correct. The "RAIN SENSOR" uses IR to bounce a Infrared signal into the glass to see if there is anything blocking it (water). Our trucks have that sensor mounted behind the mirror. However if you don't have that option. The Mount is there, but the FRIT (Black Ceramic Paint) is covering it. So you can't just pop in the sensor and wire it up and enable it via Forscan.

I am working on plan b to add it:
The sensor sits under this 3D printed cover on the passenger side.

Because they always seems to come too soon and ramp up to the highest setting too quickly. Its like their goal is to remove every droplet at all times. Maybe im just being picky but unless its a downpour im on the lowest setting or the next level up.

Both my Ranger and my wife's Jeep have them and they drive me nuts. They are never wiping at an appropriate rate, either to fast or to slow. The sensor is looking at such a small section of the windshield it is impossible for them to assess how much rain is falling. I find my self constantly adjusting the sensitivity.

It is so easy to adjust the intermittent wiper speed without taking your hands from the wheel that there is no need for the rain sensing.

Both of our vehicles are 21s and we tried them for a month or so and turned the feature off and haven't touched them since. IMHO, raining sensing wipers are an answer to a question no one was asking.

I've had and driven multiple vehicles with rain sensing wipers.

The only system that worked what I would consider "right" was the one on my 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland.

After using it, every other rain sensing system has been a letdown and quickly disabled.

To each his own I guess. While I totally agree they do not always wipe at the optimum speed, my experience has been they do so more often than not, and it is easy to adjust it so that it works as needed. It is a net positive.

We have it on both our vehicles and use it on both. It isn't a huge deal one way or the other, but for me (and my wife), we do find them useful.
