Ford Dealers Got Greedy

First off I don’t like the title of the video and this isn’t meant to be a Ford bashing thread. But this is a very worth while watch that points out what’s going on in the auto industry now in regards to pricing. I’m still not sure why they singled out Ford in the headline and in the video because ALL the manufacturers prices have got way out of control these past few years. Also take a few minutes to read some of the comments as many (long time loyal customers) are not happy with Ford especially the dealers right now and have walked and went to other manufacturers. I really hope Ford takes this serious and can correct this soon.

Now, like him or not Elon is a very smart business man! He lowered the prices of Tesla and now is capturing a huge chunk of market sales all around the world because of it. For most (especially lower income families) it’s now making new car buying very hard. Compound this with the cost of inflation and higher interest rates and most can’t even afford to buy a new vehicle now.

The video shows the average price of trucks now and they’re now priced like luxury cars were just a few years ago.The average cost of a new truck was over $59K which is crazy when you think about it. I remember buying my F150’s brand new factory ordered for right around $31K. They were usually the STX or XLT models and all were 4wd with the Fx4 off road packages. Hopefully Musk's price lowering forces the others to start lowering theirs too. If not they’ll eventually have way to much inventory sitting on their lots like pre 2020 and be forced to add discounts/incentives to move them. Not a bad thing for us consumers.

There’s no reason two of us should pay different prices for the same vehicle within a few hours on the same dealer lot. The structure has been a scam at the consumer’s expense for a long time. Buying a car should be an enjoyable experience. Change my mind.

No argument here! I was very lucky when I lived back in MA as I had a great dealer who I bought many trucks from. I would just call them up, tell them what I wanted (the internet wasn't like it is today) and they'd either locate it or order one for me. Now it's almost as stressful as having surgery!

The dealer here has been in business for decades. I believe he spends alot of time out of state and let's his family run various dealerships, son and now grandkids, they started running things pre covid and slowly made these changes, doubt he knows what's going on or at least hasn't co.mented on it. I used to see him at the gym we both went to, very personable guy. Hope they don't run his name into the ground.

Thats what's sad Mike is most don't know that customer service and repeat customers is everything! There have been many dealers who still didn't add on crazy markups and I commend them for it. The ones who did I now hope are sitting on all their inventory now.

There were some on the Bronco forum who had signed contracts for MSRP. When their Bronco arrived the dealer threw on $10K, some more. They said take it or leave it because someone else will come along and buy it. Some ended up working out a deal and still paying a couple grand over but some walked away. There were a few who had the forum members go on Google reviews and hit the dealer up with bad reviews. There's a thread there named "Naughty Dealer List. lol It did work for a couple as the dealer settled on the original MSRP as long as they all deleted the bad reviews.

while i fully agree about us getting hosed on the prices and dealers / manufactures screwing us, some of the video made me laugh. phrases like due to demand... more like due to cut of supply forcing demand. ill stop. dont wanna upset the fruit cart.
it is a bit unfair they are all on ford, as most brands are doing the same. however, ford is not innocent. i likely bought my last new ford anyway. the "american" - insert laugh - auto makers have steered me to other brands.

Here's a new video/pod cast showing how Chevy is intentionally stopping production of the Silverado to lower inventory and keep prices higher! Don't think all the others won't be doing this either so there's no doubt we'll most likely never see low prices again unless there's a bad recession.

If had a signed contract and a dealer tried that, I would get copies of all the paperwork and refuse the deal file suit. And I agree on the Google reviews. I had a plumbing company show up to r and r a repair estimate, not only did they show up on the wrong date and time (even said so on there paperwork) their equipment was run down and broke in the middle of it. I had to take a day off to accommodate their schedule error, then the 2nd and 3rd time showing up a different piece of equipment broke down, I just fired them and sent them packing. Then gave them a review they deserved. The owner called me and asked me to retract it just because and I told him no. ive since gotten 25+ likes from it. The problem was this company had the only franchise in the state at the time for residential sized drain re-lining. I ended up renting a jack hammer and saw and cut my slab 2/3 of the way across the kitchen and fixed both my laundry and kitchen drains with the help of a buddy at work. With materials and generously paying him for his labor I still had less than a third in it that they quoted to fix only one drain.

For a company founded on quality and affordability, it is obscene that a staple like the F150 has an average retail of $66k. Perhaps Elon understands what Ford seems to have forgotten, which is highly frustrating as a loyal Ford owner.

At least the video shows that Ford is trying to fix the issues with the Escape BEFORE they leave the plant. Better to catch them now than have more mad customers which I do agree with.

I've thought all along that auto companies would try to keep the pandemic model of low volume production an maximizing profit on each unit. If you can slash work force, produce half the vehicles an have half the headaches an make about the same profit why wouldn't you.
