Yeah..... Soo....... Apparently he doesnt understand that the Ranger is "Rated" to tow 7500 LBS(with proper equipment of course). Would a full size truck handle that weight better? Yes it would. That said the Ranger can do it and it is backed by Ford.

Almost all I use my truck for is towing. I bought it specifically for towing. 19,000 miles so far, 15,000 of those towing 4650lbs in all conditions day after day. I also have it loaded at the same time carrying gear. Here’s what I tow:

I have zero problems towing my 7000 pound dump trailer loaded. I guess he thinks Ford engineers are dumb. I heard all the smart people have left California.
It's a different engine, but maybe the coworker should watch the Ford ecoboost videos they made just as they released the 3.5l in the f150. I had one , it was stout and towed like no ones business, it's the videos with Mike Rowe. Again it's not the same motor but each has turbos and a 10 speed transmission. Maybe he should buy a Ranger and 7000 lb trailer and test it for 10kmiles.

I have a coworker that insists the Ranger 4 cylinder boosted engine will blow up within 500 miles with a 7000 pound trailer being towed.

He’s actually a pretty smart person. Can anyone share some real world experience?
Show this to your co-worker...Jayco 24RL. Weight ready to hit the road...around 7000 lbs, with a 700 lb hitch weight. Have towed it around 4600 miles, with the Ranger....engine has not blown up...
Tell your co-worker that when he makes statements like that, his stupidity is showing !!!

I've towed at max capacity quite a bit going back and forth between jobsites. The Ranger tows like a champ and I would be very surprised if you were able to blow it up without any modifications.

This forum reminds me of the show Mythbusters. The internet is full of myths about Rangers that need to be busted. So far it looks like Ranger 5, myths 0 :like:.

Only experience can add any validity to that statement. And once isn't indicative of a general truth.

Now if he's owned a half dozen 5G Rangers and this happened on each one, then I'd be concerned. But I'd then suspect he was running on bad oil, or ripped off oil pans in rough terrain, or any other number of abusive situations.

I know that many members here tow a lot and they can speak to their experience with their Rangers.

Now this is a smart man: "7000 pound dump trailer".

One day Soupie ... we could have a trailer like this ... the stuff made of dreams. =)

The rated towing capacity is based on so many factors and legal requirements. I would not be surprised to see thst Ford tested it successfully at 10k. But certain parts or safety criteria limits it to 7500.
I think I can tow 15,000 pounds, I have a damper and graphene. Oh, also an engine cover, I think I'm all set. =D

Update: Oh yeah, I'm a pretty smart guy! =p

People thought I was crazy when I got rid of my Cummins and picked up a Jeep CRD. I didn't need such a big truck and it was 2WD, which was normally desired for me, but I moved up to the mountains at the time and actually needed AWD. I'm now at like 237k miles and tow pretty regularly. I also use it for anything else needing a tug, like pulling down very large trees that I've cut from around my house. Now I have the Ranger to do all that and back to a 2WD (still keeping the Jeep, at least for now).

I don't suspect this truck will have an issue. I still find it funny to be towing with a 4-cylinder gas motor, coming from the days where diesel is what you get when you want to tow on a somewhat regular occasion. The Ranger actually has a slightly better rated tow capacity than my Jeep, but I think that has more to do with the body. I did end up ordering a replacement trailer that I pick up soon. Same size, no dovetail, but made of aluminum and 650 lbs lighter than my current 2,100 lbs trailer.

Let me guess. Your coworker drives a Toyota.

People wouldn't buy a Ranger rated at 10k tow, based upon my mathematical analysis

7000lbs = 500 miles

10,000 lbs = 350 miles

Best in class lbs tow rating but worst in class range. Life is said to be full of compromises
