I built this in 1989 for my wife and we use it every summer.

I use mainly backyard wood. Crabapple seems to be liked the most for a light flavor to ribs and I have had great results with wild cherry also. Many women (my wife and her 4 sisters) I find aren't fans of heavier smokes like mesquite and hickory. Men are opposite so I fire up multiple Webbers for guests.
I must admit I'm rather fond of Hickory but I found out by accident that Australian black wattle has a flavour that tastes like a cross between hickory and mesquite. We have an eternal free supply of that on our place, it's what feeds our fireplace in winter.

:sunglasses: I like Sweet Baby Ray's - especially when it was $1.00 , won't believe inflation is tamed until it reverts to that, at least they haven't shrinkflated it - which BTW is a new word added to the dictionary in 2022. However if you asked my wife (hopefully not within earshot of others) she would argue that shrinkflation has been happening for a number of yrs now.

Shrinkflation happens as you get older I understand... Along with Dunlap's disease (where the belly dun laps the belt then u no longer see the shrinkflation)

Thanks, I started with an old in-ground propane tank. Filled it with water for a week, drained it, then straddled it with a torch! Made many cuts for the doors, first for the hinges so I could weld them in place before cutting it out completely, then the sides and formed the flat stock in place for the seals.

I lucked out and had stainless steel bread-baking conveyor belt racks that were perfect for it. And then just lucked out with the firebox and venting to get it to a nice cooking temp of 300 - 350°.

50 pounds of welding rods and it still works. I do need to make a new rack, even with stainless, all the salt from smoking has worn it thin.

And the thing weighs about 450 pounds, what a pain to move on old Toro lawnmower wheels! From Texas to Miami to Boston to Portsmouth!

A "well seasoned" traveler! =D

Wow that's tremendous mileage on a Toro lawnmower...must have felt like Forrest Gump towing those trips...?

That’s what they’re talking about shutting down. Good luck with that! I know up in The NE a good amount of electricity is made from gas fired plants. That was the big investment in energy production up her to get off coal and oil. Now they don’t want more pipe lines and the demand skyrocketed because of the dependence of the electric production! Thing is, in the US we’re sitting on a 200 year supply of natural gas alone.

Follow the money. That’s what this is all about.

I remember when they did it to ice cream. Took it from 1/2 gallon box to a 1.5 liter box and kept the price the same. But I think it started in the 90s when they shrunk boxes of 22 lr from 1000 to 900,then to 800, then to 600 and now 325 with the price increasing each downsize.

What many don't know is they whip more air into the ice cream to the point where it can't legally be called ice cream anymore. Bet ya half of yall don't realize your "ice cream" actually says "frozen dairy desert" on it instead.

We only buy at Bryne Dairy now. They sell real half gallons that aren't whipped. Used to buy Wegmans before they shrunk and whipped theirs.

Blue Bell ice cream still a real 1/2 gal and one of the only ones we buy now. It's expensive but on sale here pretty regularly so we buy a few then.

They have been doing it for years. Doritos, Pizza, Medium is the new large.
Something I noticed when I was 11 or 12 in the 70's. I saw we had two of the same shampoo in the shower. One said 25 cents off. The one labeled 25 cents off was 30 cents more expensive than the one with no cents off.
