Ok hear me out, I'm on one of my OFC Ranger wacky drawing board ideas.

I have auxiliary spots currently trigger tapped to my hi-beams. This more or less makes my hi-beams just added fluff.

My idea: Somehow (if they exist) install dummy 9005 headlight plugs and tuck them away in the engine bay. Then buy and install new 9005 amber lights (if they exist). Then wire these new 9005 LED bulbs into my other auxiliary amber fog light system (standard switch in cabin).

Result: Now when I use my steering wheel stalk to activate hi-beams, its just my auxiliary spots and no headlight hi-beams. Also, now, when I trigger my auxiliary fog light array, it activates the new 9005 headlight bulb as well.

I ask about the dummy plug because I am assuming if I just flat out unplug the 9005 bulb I'll get annoying bulb outage messages on the dash and I need to trick the system that something is still plugged in, it just isn't doing anything. If the system is too smart for that and says "hey wait a minute, I'm not getting any feedback of power you can't do that" - you got any other suggestions?

The wheel stalk is probably all BCM controlled and that is just a pandora's box I am not going into to try and "snip" the hi-beam activation from that source.

Could you try just disconnecting the high beam light first? I’m not so sure you will get warning. If you do, a simple resistor usually does the trick.

Yea I sort of thought about that after I made the post. "Maybe I am over complicating this" haha

I sort of wish out high beam activation on the steering wheel stalk had two constant on directions. Pushing does this, but pulling back is only momentary. Could do some cool stuff with two a dual function constant on stalk.

Mabey he means you can change the pull back from momentary to an on/off type deal.
I guess that might be possible, I just have my doubts because its not physically keeping the power flowing when it springs back forward vs locking forward and having to be pulled back to disconnect.

So another idea; anyone know what our steering wheel bolt pattern is? Does it even use such a thing? I know about the two pins that have to be pushed out to release the wheel, but don't recall if there are extra bolts.

I could get something like this (but not exactly) then have button access much quicker/safer than standard aux switches.

I know someone at some point was trying to see about getting ROW raptor paddle shifters working, so those have to mount to something.

Even better... what about foot activated switches? haha I'm so crazy.

I just keep thinking there has to be a more efficient way to control lights than reaching for buttons...

Edit: Oh this has potential if you get a zip tie long enough to go around the steering column...

Here is the pin out for headlight harness connector https://www.ranger5g.com/forum/threads/schematic-and-harness-for-headlights.8703/post-158465

Then there is also this tap in with connectors so you’re not cutting and splicing factory wires. https://au.lightforce.com/products/headlight-patch-harness-suits-ford-ranger-everest

Think I mentioned this before but using opto isolation circuits keep the BMS happy as they don’t draw power but act like a relay, just solid state. https://www.amazon.com/HiLetgo-Chan...ocphy=1018295&hvtargid=pla-343992463804&psc=1

Edit: forgot the switch!

Same. Give me some electrical wire, five minutes and something is going to burn to the ground.
