Thank ye in advance
When I was back in MA I'd always have them over the rear wheels. I'd fill up empty 5 gal paint buckets and just put a 2x4 across the bed to keep them in place.

Same as Dave, over the rear axel is the best place. I used an old pallet and knocked out a couple of cross slats. That made a place to put buckets of sand. Used tie downs to secure the load so it wouldn’t shift. That’s when I had a 2W drive Ranger. Since going to 4X4 haven’t needed to do that.

I just grab some firewood off the pile and put it somewhat over the axle. Doesn't go anywhere if you stack it right.

I purchased stuff I can use in slippery roads and on construction. Loaded the bags over rear axle and now when I needed one bag, I had to steal it from my own truck from dealer’s yard ?
Even with added weight I’ve already performed my ballerina truck-driving style.

If you want to really maximize the effectiveness, put them behind the rear wheels near the tailgate. That gets you the best moment (weight*length) effectiveness on the rear axle. #math
Obviously the truly most effective spot would be hanging off the back 10ft or so, that way all the weight is on the rear wheels. ?

I want to know more about “math”.
I find correct place over axle to put pressure directly on wheels. Gravity makes it’s work. Just as I see it :)

I think you are right Kristina. I do use two 70# sand bags over the rear axel. Good to go. Now if it would just snow. LOL.

Think of it this way. Put 500# in the bed near the cab and see how the rear lowers. Now put that 500# on the tongue (i.e. trailer), the rear will drop even lower. it has to do with something of leverage. The further forward puts more weight on the front wheels, while farther back puts more weight on the rear wheels.

Hi All,
I keep 400lbs of water softner salt in my 2019 Lariat all year long. Really helps the ride and levels the bed a bit also. So far, love the truck. No issues and 3 years old in 10 days with 38K miles.

It’s school physics, but I can’t remember enough to explain it ?
Still, if you put weight near cab, it is divided also to front axle.
You can’t compare weight with trailer, trailer affects the truck with force of pulling back. It’s a different story.
There is a formula I don’t remember how to calculate it in physics and it’s related with weight and gravity.
