Drove little over 100 miles on a roundtrip Sunday - sealevel to 3500 ft. Avg was less than 16MPG on the way up and 19.5mpg on the way down with a fair amount of costing at speed. Was hoping for a bit better on the downside, but the best I've seen so far at just under 1000 miles on the odometer.

Good Point. My buddy's wife has 2020 4X4 Lariat and there's about 700-900lbs difference in curb weight between her Ranger and mine - that has to have some kind of an impact.
Something important to keep note of; be sure to make apples-to-apples comparisons with your own truck. 4x2 numbers will be more impressive than 4x4 numbers, even a 4x4 running in 2H.

After plug in diagnostic review. Little update after trip to dealer. 2 sensors replaced, program reworked/rebooted/tweaked, Basically Was getting some misreadings. Admit From era of mechanical fuel settings. From long trips

Update. Couple sensors and reboot/reprogram/tweak. went from 13-17 to 18-26 depending on driving conditions, yet usually in 22-24 range last 400 miles. Basically program getting misreads, running rpm’s bit high, kicking in turbo and not disengaging at optimum. Just figured mileage sucked, yet had in casual conversation with dealer, about servicing another of my vehicles, took time to “check out” my issue, since it’s been known to occur. Admit come from an era of mechanical adjustments carbs, fuel pumps etc.
Glad I didn’t take certain person’s mentality that dealer was lying to me.
Since you seem to be completely clueless as to what was done I'll repeat my request for the dealership printouts showing exactly what was done.

Have 600 miles on my Ranger....One tank fill so far, but I'm barely squeezing out 17MPG. I'm driving normal to conservative and was expecting much better gas mileage. Some of you are getting well over 20-22 MPG so I'm scratching my head here.
Are you at a high elevation? At sea level with 33" I average 18+ but driving at high elevation it's around 16mpg

Only on 2nd tank of gas on a new FX4..

16 - 17 MPG. Unfortunately, my only driving has been stoplight laden multi lane urban corridors, 5 miles of freeway uphill one way, downhill the other. I've not logged steady freeway speeds over any significant distance.

I hate to burn the gas unnecessarily but I might just 'take a drive' and see what happens with a fresh tank. From the 2nd tank of gas, I had upgraded tires from Hankook ATMs to LT255/75/17 C Load Firestone Destination XTs. 1 1/2" taller, slightly narrower, less than 5 pounds heavier. So, I'm figuring a 5% increase from what the truck meter tells me. Rough math. My speedometer is less than 5% slow compared to GPS.

Wasn’t getting into pissing contest with arrogant mentalities. Waited to see if actual fix after diagnostics and adjustments/replacements made. Well, after a diagnostic check, turbo, throttle, transmission shift sensors not properly coordinating. If watching gear indicator, only would go into 10th going down hill. Last 1,000 miles Approximately getting “normal” now fuel mileage. 18-25 depending on driving conditions.

Since you are so adamant that SOMETHING was done. Could you be so kind as to take a picture of the printouts from your service sovthat we can se just WHAT was done.

Not trying to be arrogant here. But so far all you've given us is a bunch of speculation. And no data at all to back it up.

One wave of the magic wand later it runs good. Technician changed the mpg offset so it always reads over 20mpg. Here you go sir all fixed.

Exactly my thoughts.

Dealerships aren't the smartest. But it's sad that they're smart enough to fool 80% of the people.

Finally took my new FX4 on a road trip with mostly open freeway miles. I just received a Snugtop Rebel canopy, so that's a new variable. Also replaced stock Hankooks with Firestone Destination XT in 255/75/17 C Load. Did the published calculations, tire size should add 5% to MPH and odometer readings. I believe I can carry this across to the MPG calculator. Essentially, add 1 MPG to whatever the readout says if its between 15 and 20 MPG.

Prior to road trip, I had the worst scenarios for MPG - stop and go in neighborhood and city environments. MPG calculator read 16 on average. Accounting for larger tire size, I'd bump that up to 17 MPG. Only had 350 miles on the truck, not broken in.

Packed the truck for camping - 12v fridge and Jackery 1500 power station, large tent, cold weather gear, stove, firewood, myself, wife and 45 pound dog. Its everything we used to take in our Subaru Outback, which really loaded it down. We traveled 150 miles one way, half of that on largely flat open freeways, doing 70 mph. The other half was climbing and descending mostly open rural highways, 50 - 60 mph.

MPG calculator read 20.5. Accounting for larger tires, I'll bump that to 21.5. I'd love to see 25 mpg, but as mentioned I added a 250+ pound Snugtop canopy, camping gear and 32" C load AT tires.. wondering if this is the best I can expect under those circumstances of if mileage will improve with further breaking in. I think I have under 600 miles on the truck now. I fill with 87 octane, regular unleaded.

That seems to be about what I would expect with that setup. You might see some slight improvements with further break in.

I exclusively run premium. But not for any perceived MPG advantage. I do so for engine safety and performance.

That being said, you might see a slight bump with a switch to premium. Buy the math usually says it's not worth it if doing it solely for mileage.

Driving style plays the biggest role. I have a lead foot or worse. On the highway its 72 no matter what, or less obviously. I pull down 24 plus on long trips. Worse if its up hill and head winds.

Is 72 fast?
