Forget about MPG , good or bad , I drive 100% in sport mode now , still get 19 and have fun coming and going , never saw a grave marker yet that bragged about gas milage , get busy living !

I think I get better gas mileage in sport mode, granted I dont track it much. I average 18-19 running only 93 with typical new England town driving. Sport mode seems to stay in the 19-20 range.

I don't really care. I considered the hybrid maverick for a moment but just couldn't do it. I wanted a truck so i got a truck.

I’m sure it’ll be several thousand miles but I’m no expert there.
Are you getting gas at the same place? Maybe try a different brand. I had a Kia Soul Turbo and it would run different depending on the gas I used.

I'm not even sure what the break-in mileage target is? 5k, 10k?

Top Tier gas does make a difference I've noticed. 91+ will also get you better MPG but I found the better MPG didn't really pay for the difference between 87 and 91, so I quit using it and I've been using 87 (Regular) almost all of the time now.

My truck a 19 XL STX FX4 Crewcab is all factory except roll up bed cover. As of today my truck is 3yrs 4 months old with 35,744 (S)miles, have towed on five long haul trips moving. My life time average is 23.5 & I have been converted to driving in tow mode all the time for quite a while now. I also have extra cargo weight in extra emergency supplies. So if you figure my towing trips were in the 12 to 13 range which they were I have obviously had some higher than my average. Very pleased. All on 87 oct. :like:

My Ranger left Flagstaff Arisona and traveled 283 miles. It used about three cups of fuel...wonderful mileage....

Best,

Have 600 miles on my Ranger....One tank fill so far, but I'm barely squeezing out 17MPG. I'm driving normal to conservative and was expecting much better gas mileage. Some of you are getting well over 20-22 MPG so I'm scratching my head here.
I'm also in the LA area. I drive from Long Beach to Chatsworth (50 miles each way) everyday during heavy traffic almost always (when isn't it!) I average right at 22 mpg. I do try to keep it at a reasonable speed and feather the throttle and avoid stop and go braking whenever possible. Keeping it rolling is a big helper on inceased mpg's. My daily speeds range between 35 and 80 typically. FWIW

I drive the same but not seeing anywhere close to these numbers. We'll see. I'm barely holding 16MPG with my last tank fill and I'm taking it easy!

Did you hand calculate? You cannot assume your indicated MPG is correct and in some cases not even close to correct.
To get your best accuracy, always fill up at the same gas pump, starting and finishing your calculation. All pumps do not shutoff at the same level

If you're watching mileage, be cautious when you purchase your next set of tires. When my Bridgestone Duelers (all seasons aka Summer Tires) wore out and switched to Goodyear Duratracs my mileage suffered greatly.
After my first full tank of gas on the Duratracs is when I stopped watching my mileage. Put of sight, out of mind.

As others have said, you need to put some miles on it. I purchased my Ranger in Colorado and drove it back to SoCal the next day. The best MPG I got was 21.5 with all the Hwy driving. However, after a few thousand miles, I began to average close to 26 MPG on trips. Mixed around town I get 21-22.

It never ceases to amaze me how some people are constantly hitting their brakes. My commute is about 2/3 country hilly curvy back roads. But I can go for miles without needing to hit the brakes by anticipating curves, hills etc. Sometimes I get behind someone who will hit their brakes 15-30 times and I will not need to hit them once, and I maintain about the same distance behind them. weird! Their MPG must suck, not to mention frequent brake jobs.
FWIY, my 2003 F150 4x4 averaged 15MPG.

Just using the MPG gauge on the Ranger at this time. Based on how the gas gauge is tracking, it seems reasonably accurate.

I seems reasonably accurate based on what? Seems you are just wild a&* guessing that it is reasonably accurate. If you don't check it against calculating, how would you possibly know? Mine was about 12% off. I had to recalibrate it, now it is "reasonably" accurate.
you are complaining about your mileage, yet you don't have a clue whether the source you are using is accurate or not.
