Ford has made it obvious in the past couple years how little they care for the ranger.

Barely saw it advertised when it came out, any time the ceo had a TV "interview" you'd see all the models in the background except for the ranger. Any commerical would show all the models except for, yup, the ranger.

They're done providing support for this gen ranger.

Yes I am. Then bolt it down instead of using the plastic rivits. Ask any RVer… butyl tape works wonders. Butyl rubber caulk is awesome also but not something you find at a basic hardware store. It’s used to seal in commercial window systems and flashing. Don’t get it on you because it is super sticky and a real pain in the ass to clean off. Take it apart in 20 years though and butyl caulk will be just as sticky and nasty as the day you applied it. Amazing stuff for blocking water. I’m convinced that all that is needed is a good seal between the plastic cover and metal cowl and a sealing of the split/center plastic fastener will solve the problem.
I ruined my cowl (80 bucks) changing the water flow direction but ill cut the new one better , my goal is to keep the water out of there in the first place , terrible design , no slots where there should be and several where they should NOT be ... imo...

No kidding. How often is it the first one of anything you see is in person vs on some sort of ad. I remember seeing the first 5G and thinking.. wow they are back?! I actually checked to see if it had mexican plates first. I see a few things here that we dont get from someone visiting.

Here is Plug 1 (front) and evidence of water and light corrosion, both rust and Al. Oxide.
I wonder if this picture will get me new plugs?

And did anyone else have the stud come out rather than just the nut? Could also be the result of moisture.

As someone else pointed out there is NO evidence of water on my engine cover. Which is odd.
Might try paper towels taped to the cover as Jeff did.

I feel my OCD cranking up. Now how long can I control it ? It’s getting dark outside… tomorrow…

Actually this will be a good indicator of how well if any factory cover works. I put it on mine about 2 months after I got it. So it’s been on now almost 2 years

I have not been out to check mine yet, but was wondering if a lifted , very close to level truck, parked on a flat slab be less susceptible to the water dripping on the engine ?

Might be hard to get a solid answer. Not all of them seem to do this. On the road with the normal rake an in my driveway that is angled to make it nearly level; I don't see water leaking either way. Others have a major problem.

You bastards kept trying to get me to smell my oil. Now I've got to resist this as well.

Damn, maybe I'll get a damper.

nahhhhhhhhh
They need to add the the following to the user manual "smell your oil while it's raining and check for a damp valve cover every 500 miles.. or as rain is available." For the rest of the 22s and 23s

I come with updates!

1)Baking sheets can get f'ing hot in a span of 10 minutes on top the engine.
2)No leaks for me.

I saturated the hell out of the windshield and cowl area (to an extent) to simulate a long heavy rain, even blasted it forward into the cowl/wiper arm area. The junk foam "seal" appeared dry as well.

I did notice ford had put a piece of tape at the split seam on mine:

Not sure if the tape is there to seal and/or keep the two edges from warping in heat.

I'll still check once in a while, especially when the temps start to drop.

Water I got last night….

IMG_20220905_064628.webp

On mine , ANY water that goes down the slots maked in red , INSTANTLY drains out the push rivet , i blocked those holes and moved them back away so they drain before they get there , the center where the trims join is the HIGHEST POINT of the metal underneath , water 3 inches either way drains back and down and away from the high point... cost me 80 bucks caused i slipped with me Dremal and hacked it up ...

Thanks for investigating and testing this. I’ll definitely be checking under the hood after washing the truck or after it rains. ?

Now, put that baking sheet back before you catch hell from the boss.
