It's show time! It's time to purchase a Ford ESP extended warranty or not?

My stock 2020 Ranger Lariat now has 34,000 miles on it, and I need to decide whether to get the Ford extended ESP warranty.

So far, I have done all the maintenance on my Ranger myself: 5,000 mile oil changes; and 10,000 engine & cabin filters. Every 6,000 miles Discount Tires has rotated & balanced my tires. Because of this, it should be noted my Ranger has never been to the dealer since purchased new.

I have learned from this forum: the Ford Extended warranty is the best; where to buy ESP at great savings; and maybe having the warranty will save me from expensive surprises- like replacing a severed heater box.

However, I wonder what won't get fixed under the escape clause, "wear and tear" or some other "Catch 22" excuse for coverage. I also wonder about not being treated as well as cash paying customers, as opposed to warranty claim people.

So, I need help.

Are there any good praises out there from people that have used Ford ESP and are truly glad they purchased the warranty? I'm sure good stories would help me decide what to do.

Thanks in advance-

i say get the warranty or trade her in lol honestly i think so much depends on the dealers. if you have a dealer with an honest service department that you use then the esp may be worth every penny.

I just turned 36K miles with my 19 Lariat. I believe that any major problems will happen during the 3/36 so I'm saving the cash. I've won this bet with every car I've owned since the 90's so even if I lose this time, I'll still be up overall.

I'll have to make this same decision in a few months.

I'm at 2.5 years but only 17k miles, so I'd be looking at the 8 year/60k plan.

Honestly, the only real concern I have is the heater box.

And replacement of the heater box costs more than the warranty.

Go to the Flood Ford site, enter your information and see how much the warranty would be, then you can decide if its worth it to you. Only you can decide if you are prepared to self insure against repairs equal to, or greater, than the cost of the warranty.

Extended warranties are always a gamble. I bought a 7 year/100K ESP (Flood Ford) when I got my 2019 Ranger. Since this is not the 'family vehicle', I intend to keep it that long. To me the biggest unknown these days are the electronics. I had GPS issues not too long ago, and they replaced the APIM under the ESP. I don't know the actual cost, but I only paid $100.

From a dealership perspective, service contracts reimburse us the same way Ford warranty does.

There are benefits for and against warranties, generally speaking 50-60% of buyers purchase.

If you are considering it, we offer Ford's at $50 over dealer cost at www.grangerfordextendedwarranty.com

I just bought one back in May as mine was turning 3 years old in July. I never keep a vehicle longer than 3 years but with all the shortages, deleted items and the next Gen Ranger about to launch I figure I'd keep this one a few more years. Will all the electronics onboard it only takes one to go and it'll cost you way more than the warranty. Plus I had my hvac actuator break and that alone is over $2,000. I did the temp fix for now but at some point it'll need to be done right. So if you plan on keeping it a few years beyond the 3/36 I would definitely think about getting one. Just figure out how many more years and average out your miles then decide on what deductible, I went with $100.

I appreciate the replies- getting the extended warranty should create some sense of security- and that is why I wondered how many of you had real life experience by using the ESP.
The extended warranty gets complicating- there is the additional FOB coverage, which is not a Ford warranty; but the additional LED coverage which is; and there is additional rental car coverage- which doesn't kick in until after a few days, or for an additional fee, it kicks in on the first day of needing it. I believe there is also coverage where you can get your vehicle picked up and delivered once the repairs have been completed.
If I have this right, the ESP plans automatically include Emergency Roadside Assistance.
Whew! Keep those ESP reviews coming in and thanks!

When I got the '22 XLT I purchased a 6yr/125K bumper to bumper.
