Well my 1000 mile test drive might be over , told dealer last night to "COME AND GET IT THEN!" Not what you think , I still want and love it ... Im in WV , dealer is Indiana , deal was supposed to include taxes ,title and all the usuals as their end of the deal , still have a little time on temp tags but went to DMV to get plates , finally get called to window (had all the paperwork needed ) then was told " sir , your total is $2342.05 ... No mamn , they sent a form where they collected that already , which I presented ... Was informed that paper was just that , paper , only way im getting legal is to pay , I did protest (no , im not banned from the DMV....yet) but figured it was a mistake and would call dealer and fix tomorrow , dealer was on it , not to worry , YESTERDAY , I called dealer to just , send me the taxes he collected and ill just go DMV it myself , again... Late last nite he calls with " well it looks likened had to get taxes from you here in Indiana and your gona have to pay the WV end.... Hahahah... We argued for a little (cordially) , and I simply explained I was not paying 2500 extra for this truck , not even 25 dollars , cause the whole "we had a deal thingy" he adamant on his stance so I (calmly) explained the truck will be pulled in my garage , tarped, and my first call this morning will be to Ford Motor Credit (one reason I always finance from the guys that made it) informing them of all that went down and where their very clean truck would be available for pick up , and that they can just keep the tailgate letters .... Also reminded dealer to bring my check of 17,500.00 when he comes to get it.... Well , damn it , he calles my bluff , with supriseinly little delay , so , sometime today , he is supposed to call with pickup details ... My gut is telling me there is NOWAY they are gona come get a truck in WV from way up in Indiana over 2500 bucks... But that just may be the case , i got a thousand mile test drive if nothing else , and another new truck when I can find one...

You should never pay taxes to a state that you don't reside in. You would only pay the taxes in your home state. So the dealer was wrong in collecting taxes. It should have been on you to pay your state sales tax at your DMV. So the DMV was correct that they needed to collect tax. Your dealer should reimburse you the taxes that you paid to them.

Dealers can be so shady, spending time researching a dealer is key as some of them are honestly great folk and will go out of their way to properly service you and beyond. Hopefully everything works out for ya!

I would try and seek out some legal counseling this morning and there usually is some for free for seniors. I bought my Jeep in Iowa and didn't pay any taxes until I registered it here in AZ. If it shows on your paperwork the dealer took out the taxes you are in the right and they have to reimburse you. I hope you can get it straightened out as it's not easy to find another truck in this market. Good Luck!

On a side note just don't come back here with a new name like ReallyI'mNotBudule. ?

Dealer claims by law they have to because WV is a "reciprical" state , and he listed ones that were and ones that aren't . I calmly ( im getting better) explained I had ZERO F**ks to give , that wasn't the deal as I understood it (couldn't care less if was in the fine print or not) and that I would be crying but would still help them load the truck so they didn't screw it up.... So , someday soon , if your looking for a Supercabs , a dealer in Indiana is gona have a nice carbon Grey , blackout package xlt on the lot , 1000 miles now , but more if they drive it back..... The GOOD NEWS HERE , for most , maybe all , I won't have to be here anymore ! RP ! This might be your happy day sir !

Would you tell me who was the Indiana dealer? You can message me via this group if you don't want to post it in the open. :sunglasses:

Should change your name to welp! The next one you get will be coming with all the “deleted” features! Could be close to 2K by the time you find one ?

So it's a one-way reciprocal state? Odd. Your residing state doesn't recognize that tax was paid to a reciprocal state?

I've bought a lot of vehicles out of state, including both Rangers.

My understanding is that when the vehicle is financed the bank generally requires the tax/title/tags to be part of the deal so that it will end up licensed and usable. This was the case with both Rangers, bought in VA, 1 licensed in MD the new 1 in DE.

I've never heard of a situation where you have to pay tax in both states, but I suppose it's possible. Hopefully Ford Motor Credit will help get this straightened out.

Wow, just wow….. That dealer might be ignorant, shady or maybe even both. However, when buying a vehicle, boat, airplane, motorcycle or anything of the like that requires state registration (because, taxes) you always and only pay for what state (county) you are going to register it in. During my paltry 35 minutes at the Florida dealer (thank you 3rd party auto negotiator), while reviewing the “long sheet“, I made sure to confirm that Georgia taxes, and ONLY Georgia taxes were notated and included.

Do you want the truck or not? If you want the truck then try to stick it to the dealer & extract your taxes so that you can pay your home state. If you don't then let them get it back from you. Doesn't seem that complicated other than the dealer being shady. The rest of it... IDK what to say lol

If you think one RP is tough to deal with stay away from Tacoma World! There's about 10,000 of them over there and you wouldn't last an hour. lol ?
