The sound on phone calls stopped working. Its been that way for a few months. Tried multiple phones and same result. It works just fine streaming music or sound on other apps. I did a factory restore and update on my crappy 4" stereo but didn't fix it.

Any ideas forum sphere? :curse:

I’d take it to the dealer if it’s under warranty

It is on outgoing or incoming calls? Are you using Android Auto, CarPlay or just plan BT connection?

I know that in the RS with AA and Sync3 if the phone ringer setting in Sync3 is not set to use phone ringtone I cannot hear incoming calls when I answer them.

It’s iPhones and both incoming and outgoing. It’s connected but no sound.

Still not sure if using CarPlay or just BT connection. Here are the steps I would do as general trouble shooting since I'm not familiar with iPhones.

  • Disconnect any cables, and BT if connected
  • Unpair the devices from each other.
    • If using CarPlay forget/clear each from the other.
    • In BT settings clear each from the other.
  • A reboot of the phone and restart of the truck couldn't hurt, but I'm don't think that it is necessary.
  • BT pair them
    • On the phone set it to be discoverable via BT.
    • On the Sync3 interface search for new BT devices and pair to the phone.
    • On the phone confirm any permissions you may be prompted for.
  • Once that is done, remain as BT only connection (no USB)
    • Test outgoing calls
    • Test incoming calls
    • If still no audio in either case, it will require additional troubleshooting.
  • If all is working with BT only and you want CarPlay use.
    • Connect USB and follow prompts on phone and car until complete.
    • Test incoming and outgoing calls again.

That is the best I can advice at the moment without being familiar with iPhone.

Sounds like a SYNC/APIM glitch more than a speaker issue. On the 2019 Ranger XL, call audio only runs through the front dash speakers, not the rears, so fader settings won’t help. Since you’ve already tried different phones and even a reset, I’d lean toward the Bluetooth HFP channel inside the SYNC module going bad. I’ve seen people switch over to Active Calls call center software for testing since it makes it easier to confirm if the issue is with the phone or the truck’s system. If the calls work fine there, it’s pretty clear the Ranger’s SYNC module is the culprit. Might be worth asking the dealer about an APIM reflash or replacement.
