Need a left side CV axle

No luck with salvage yards?
I know it's 50/50 you'll get a bad part but a lot of yards have some sort of warranty.

I've checked with a few and they checked with others. So far no luck

Well I've had bad luck since getting the 2020 a few weeks ago . Leveled her out then went to get alignment and the rear bumper was damaged . Parts on backorder for that so just in a holding pattern to get repaired . Today the drivers side CV started clicking and is leaking grease badly . Have been driving OK since the level kit was installed but I know this was my fault so just took to mechanic to get repaired on my dime . NO part to be found anywhere , Uggggh ! Most places say national backorder until at least Oct 20th and then it's a matter of how many orders are in front of mine

If anyone knows where to find a new or used drivers side front axle for a 2020 crew cab FX4 Lariat Ranger please let me know . I can find several for 2019 or even a 2020 XL/XLT but they all tell me they will not work on the 2020 Lariat .

I had watched this video but did not read the comments about they were doing it incorrectly . I came back in and re-watched it after the drivers side was so difficult and realized you should remove the axle nut first to prevent putting stress on the CV joint . The right side went very easy . They should really take this video down and I should have actually realized the issue sooner myself .

I did the same exact thing but luckily didn’t damage the shaft. It took hours to get it to pop back in. All because of that video. I should’ve known better, but was happy at the time savings.

That 20 Oct date is the standard answer for back ordered parts. I just got told my drivers rear axle for 2021 lariat FX4 is now that date.

I'm not sure of the hub system on these rangers, but assuming the CV doesn't hold the hub together you could drive without it using the dif-side as a plug.

Meaning cut the wheel side joint and shaft, using only the dif side joint to plug it. Surely the mechanic can think of ideas. Done it myself years ago as a road-side repair.



You won't have a live axle shaft of course, but it you won't have to worry about it grenading and causing damage either.

I had asked the mechanic about doing that but he had some concerns so didn't follow through with the idea .

There's likely some local shops around that specialize in rebuilding CV shafts. Perhaps one of them can take a look and might be able to rebuild it. If so this may keep you going until the OEM replacement can come in. That way you have it ready if the rebuilt unit fails.

I was looking for a locking rear end to swap out with mine. Got about 10 different ones all over the country on that.

I guess my question is... Since the Lariat is a trim package, why are parts like CV not interchangeable between Lariat and XL/XLT?

I agree, no manufacturer in their right mind (with the exception of Jaguar) would manufacture a different axle for a different trim level vehicle...

The CV axle DOES help hold the front end together, I wouldn't drive it without.

I dislocated my cv axle as well installing my 2.5 spacer lift (learned the nut Must come off). by some sorcery miracle I was able to pop it back in place and finish the install.

This happened to me to, pain in the ass for me to get the drivers side back in, passenger went in smoothly for some lucky reason.

I wouldn't say the nut HAS to come off, but you need to secure the spindle with a bungee cord or something to make sure it doesn't over extend and pull the CV spider/tripod out of the inside bearing. Removing the axle nut makes everything way easier though. I chose not to because I couldn't re-torque it back to the 200-something ft.lbs and didn't have a socket big enough for my impact to take it off.
