I feel what you say ... but if you are thinking DIY, with a grill behind a cut OEM frame, it may not turn too clean after all, except with maybe a metal mesh which would sit pretty flush. As you can see, I am already thinking of a new project ...
I actually like this incognito decal and may do something similar. Reminds me of when folks wrap their car over decals for an embossed look.Wanted to add a muted flag decal. However. Matt dark grey on Carbonized Grey becomes an invisible flag!! waiting for black now. oh well.
I love the more incognito look myself. I did it to my Mustang! ("Shelby" fender hashes, and Mad Max MFP shield on the fenders.)

Here is the link for it. I also have more pictures in my build thread. Overall I'm happy to have a better way to mount it but also felt it was expensive for what it is and the quality. $30 with shipping.
