As intermittent as your problem seems to be, I would still lean towards a wiring, connector problem. I certainly wish you good luck on this issue. Please keep us informed.

Thanks brother. Yeah, that was my thought too. When I initially spoke to the service advisor, I mentioned speed sensor and connectors for the wiring harness. He said "we ruled that out".

Maybe I will check on my own if I can get the truck home without it throwing a code.

Hi Evan,

You are in need of a different Dealer. "we ruled that out" is not an answer.... "We checked, verified the connectors/wiring are good" is acceptable...

I totally agree.

I am going into the dealer today to actually discuss a buyback. I called the sales manager yesterday and he immediately brought up lemon law on his own. If I can get all of my money back, I will likely do that and then leverage a good deal on a 2021 Ranger. If they try and "pro-rate" the truck for the 5 weeks I have owned it, 2.5 of which it has been sitting in service, I will not be happy.

I think a full refund and then purchasing another vehicle from them so they keep the revenue is more than fair. At this point, I have such a sour taste in my mouth, I don't know if I will ever have confidence in my current truck to not throw some weird code when I am in the mountains.

*Long Update*

For those who want the cliff notes: buyback process is easier than I thought, and I opened my case with Ford. Sales tried to sell me a 2021 and get me to trade in my truck, I said no.

Went to the dealer today, spoke to a really nice gentleman about the buyback process with Ford. He was very informative and I actually felt like he was on my side, which was a massive relief. The buyback happens with corporate Ford and not the selling dealer for a lemon law (I was unaware of this). So, they want me to get as much money as I can back and gave me some tips on how to file the case. I have opened a case with Ford as of an hour ago.

After I spoke to the gentleman about the buyback, sales tried to get me into a new vehicle that day via trade in. I found a 2021 Ranger on the lot I kind of liked, then the 2.5 hour negotiation ensued lol. I got them to take off the $2,500 markup, they offered me $500 less than what I paid for the vehicle for a trade in allowance ($37,500), and they were going to throw in an extended warranty for $1,500 (out of pocket). Out the door pricing was $45,xxx.

I ended up walking. I found no need to rush into the purchase of a new vehicle and eat all of the sales tax, licensing, and fees I paid when I bought my 2019. Might as well wait a month or so and drive my rental until I get ALL of my money back from Ford, including my payments I have made and my extended warranty cost, taxes, licensing, etc.

Who knows, Ford might actually fix it! Now that I have my case open, the customer service rep on the phone said I could still go to another dealer if I wanted and they would have it all documented. If I get the truck back next week and it throws a code, I will call my Ford customer service case representative and let them know I want to drop it off to a different dealer - this shouldn't matter in regards to my open lemon law case according to him.

For now, I get to drive my rental kia for a few more days....

Got a call from the dealer last night that the truck was ready to be picked up - they replaced the gas pedal assembly and road tested the truck and said it was OK. I picked the truck up at about 6pm and went for a nice long drive.....no codes!

So far, I have put 54 miles on the truck with no codes. We will see what happens. Previously the truck would go for a few days of no codes and then throw the codes, so we aren't out of the woods yet.

I'll keep everyone updated.

My 2019 STX has been acting very similarly in recent weeks. 24 months old with 22K miles. I decided to do a post/terminal clean yesterday, and wouldnt ya know, there is a bracket with a cable on the negative post, on the far right, looking at the top of the battery, that was actually ONLY FINGER TIGHT. I stopped right there and snugged it up. Ran several errands today without issues, sure hope it’s fixed. Might wanna check yours!

Ok, about 1000 miles in since I picked the truck back up - I’ve been driving a lot. So far, no issues!

I checked the nut mentioned above and it was nice and tight. Looks like the gas pedal assembly was the issue!

Still have a weird driveline clunk, but I will make a separate thread for that so people can use the search function and find a thread with that fix documented. Cheers and Happy 4th of July everyone!

Hope the fix is still working out for you. The wrench has illuminated a few times for me intermittently and no pattern - no limp mode - clears when engine is turned off. Have also had the hill start assist malfunction 2 or 3 times. Dropped off at dealer today and told them about your gas pedal fix, so we’ll see.
