Hi I Just got my 2020 Ranger today and I noticed it kind of has a diesel sound to the engine and I heard it has to do with the EGR cooler (whatever that is lol) is that right or is my ranger not supposed to have a sound like that ?

I don't hear anything that sounds like a diesel in my 19. Is it inside or outside the cab? I ask because I have read some people posting about simulated engine noise in the cab.

You're probably hearing the injectors clicking...
Yep. The 2.3L Ecoboost is a gasoline direct injection engine. You're hearing the injectors fire with 2000+psi of fuel pressure behind them.

Newb question part 2. Do Rangers have Sound Symposers? Deleting it was Job 1 on my 2018 Focus ST. I pick up my 2020 Ranger tomorrow. Just curious.
Cheers

Congratulations on your new truck and welcome to the forum.

My Ranger doesn't sound like a diesel.

No its “enhanced via the speaker system”. It’s worth noting as if u plan to add a sub etc u may need to sort it out via Forscan??

oh and gz!

I know it’s not just Ford doing it but “enhanced via speaker system” seems a really bad idea. I’m old fashioned but I want authentic engine noise. Thanks.

It depends on the trim level. The NA market Lariat with the B&O systems have active noise cancellation (ANC), but the consensus thus far is they do not have the fake engine noise piped in. Now the jury is still out on this so it's not 100% certainty, but multiple Lariat owners, myself included have reported that the "fake Engine" noise has not been heard. The XLT and XL may or may not have ANC but do all seem to have the fake engine noise piped in via the radio.

Ya know...I'm just not seeming to hear "fake" engine noise. Or maybe I don't know what the noise is supposed to sound like. I have a 2019 XLT Sport, and this truck is way quiet in my experience.
Noise that I DO hear is the same with the radio on or off.
Do I have a hearing problem maybe?
Is the sound somehow exacerbated by having a damper (I do not yet have one...)?
Inquiring minds want to know!
