IDK but since I installed mine I gained 20hp more and 50lbs torque! ? You haters have no idea what you're missing but eventually you'll all get one. It's like a subliminal message you'll get so sick of hearing it you'll break down and get one!

I was at the Ford dealership buying a Motorcraft oil filter and there was a guy at the dealership who just had them install a tailgate damper. He was so happy.

He said the biggest reason he liked it was he no longer has to take his man purse, aka "satchel", off his shoulder to open the tailgate.

True story.

  • A Rick Roll surprise maybe, but at this point a contradicting opinion on the topic is no surprise
  • War between the States pick a side and brace yourself for combat
  • Having your wheels turn when driving no cause this is also unexpected...see #1 above
  • too involved because those that have it, can't explain it yes, I'm not sold on it yet but I might be a convert

I don't understand why everyone seem so adamant that the damper is not needed.
Of course it is lighter than a steel one. Of course I am strong enough to lower it myself without straining anything. So what?

The main reason I got one was because invariably, when I wanted to lower the tailgate, my hands were full and it was awkward to do it one-handed and try whip my one hand around to catch it after releasing the handle. And I was tired if listening to it slam down when the wire cable reached it's limit.

So all you heroic men out there congratulating yourself on your manliness for not needing the damper, get over yourself. The rest of us are out here just enjoying the hell out of our nice quiet tailgate as it sloooowly lowers itself down. lol

I got rid of the tailgate cable cause it was slowing it down too much to be manly and I also put the the front of a metal shopping cart on the bumper as the bump stop for it. Gonna be fun when the rains come and you gotta wait 15 minutes in a downpour for the tailgate to open.:whew:

Damperonious, the God of everything tailgate came to me in a dream. He said, (say this in your best Godly voice) "Son, get thyself a tailgate damper." Now me, not being one to defy the Gods looked for a damper high, and low, day, and night. Then it happened, Ebaynius, the God of all things on sale online told me (yeah, same kinda voice here) "Herein fail not at your peril, use me as your guide." And I did. I'm happy, the Gods are smiling, my tailgate will thank me, and all is right in the world.

I honestly pride myself of my preplanning more actually.
Now where is the fun in that?

I usually shop planning to not buy anything. And then the 'impulsius forceius' attacks and I walk out with my arms full. I end up happy, the bride is pissed about what I bought but then I get another chance to enjoy my sloooowww lowering tailgate. Gotta love it. LOL
