I have to believe a lot of the die hard Jeep guys took a bit of a hit with the loss of the 4.0L and design changes. Them putting an 8 in would help, but that new powertrain isn't great and it replaced a legend. I think with another option and one as nice as the ranger platform and every jeep advantage will sway a lot of people.

Toyota is definitely taking notice.
Oh I can agree. I'm one that believes Jeep isn't quite what it used to be. I wanted another one (new one) to accompany my '68, but now I don't think I do. The quality just isn't there for the price now. With that being said, I do wish the bronco was just a touch cheaper. I think if they were priced just a bit more competitively with Jeep, you would see a huge crossover from jeep. But, not everyone are car guys (or gals). Some people just will not pay more for a similar vehicle. I think that will hurt the bronco a little. But who knows, should be fun to see next year. I wouldn't mind picking up a low mileage used one next year after somebody else takes the pocket book hit.

Talking to a friend of mine last year, who was a spotter for a famous rally/stunt driver, he was saying how they'd talked to Ford then, and the Bronco was slated to be a $50K vehicle. It looks like they've come down, at least for the base model, but it sounds like they had high hopes for a big price on these. The stunt driver has already posted pictures online of the one he's going to get.

I'm disappointed that only the two door Bronco has a manual transmission. I think there is a lot of potential Bronco buyers who would like a manual transmission option in all the Bronco versions. Why do the engineers think everyone wants automatic. Manual is much better for off-roading.

Because most people do want an automatic. As sad as that is. A very small minority of people want a manual, and even less than that will actually put their money where their mouth is and get one. 99% of the driving population just want something to get them from point A to point B with as little effort as possible. That's one of the reasons why self driving cars are becoming such a big thing.

All that said, I for one am a manual transmission person, and would get one if able. The Ranger is my first automatic vehicle.

Because when they make a manual nobody buys it.
They need to stop putting manual transmissions in the lowest optioned cars. That's the problem. Every oprionpackage should have a choice of a manual transmission

Hi Earl,

Back when at Ford, I got a new vehicle ever year...Had fully decked out Aerostars with a 3.0L M5OD manual. Got a note after a couple years that the fully decked out were going all automatic as of the 150,000 Aerostars sold...only 300 were Bus with M5OD...sigh.... Not enough volume to support the complexity in the plant.

The first year the Aerostar was out I tried to find a V6 with the 5 speed manual and windows. I only found the ones without windows in the back which would not work for the family. I did find and purchase a 4 cylinder with 5 speed manual and used it for 150K miles.

I agree! Or they only put them in the very top level sports models. The. Only way I could have gotten a 6 speed in the wife's Mazda3 hatch was to take top model with a lot of options we didn't want or need, for top line price.

We both like to drive manuals, as do both our kids. Wish I could have gotten the "Big Blue" with a "Stick" in him. Only thing I miss from my old Ranger.

I went and drove a manual Wrangler today, thinking I might get rid of the Grand Cherokee and get a TJ.

Slow, cramped, loud, hot (soft top), and yet still entertaining to drive.

The manual just feels "right" in some vehicles.

The romantic reflections of a manual in many cases are much better than the reality, but in this case the manual is the real deal.

I can only imagine how good the manual will be behind the EB 2.3.

I don't think I would be interested in it at all if it were an auto (especially since the years of TJ that I'm interested in would have the 42RLE auto, a nightmare cludgefest of a front wheel drive minivan transmission "re-engineered" to work in a RWD/4WD Jeep. It's every bit as good as it sounds.)

As it is, I'm seriously thinking about putting the GC up for sale.

This will take sales from Jeep. Why? Because for the last 20ish years if you wanted a decent off roader, you had to go to Jeep. People who didn’t like the Jeep got one because that’s what the needed to go wheelin, camping, fishing etc. Now they have a choice.
Will Ford take away the number 1 spot? Not likely, but they will be a strong second. And if Fiat does what Fiat does, that Jeep is gonna start having some pretty big quality issues.

There are a lot of excuses but at the end of the day the manufacturers aren't going to lose money selling manuals just because people complain when there isn't a manual option. The numbers have been declining literally for decades, and there is not a little change that any manufacturer can make that would reverse that.

Can you custom order?
