Window trim defect

I have a slight defect in the trim below the driver window. Went to selling dealer and after 10 pictures and a couple of days they called and said it would be covered by warranty. Good news. Then he says I will Call you when part gets here and you will need to leave it a couple of days to do the job. 2 DAYS TO CHANGE OUT THAT TRIM. Are they serious. It’s 4 minutes to take off door panel and maybe a couple screws. Am I wrong?

That's a 30 min repair AT MOST! Removing the door panel is easy and should take a qualified technician maybe 5 minutes if they're really careful. That's IF the inner door panel needs to be removed. Some of these trim pieces will be attached with some clips and 1 screw toward the rear, that you would remove from the interior side of the door.

and if the window glass requires removal? still a 30 minute job?

The window does not need to be removed to replace that trim, but if it does, then it would be an extra 5 min. Trust me, windows are not hard to take out of doors, for those of us who have done it many times.

i tried looking to the online manuals that we can find on here, and unfortunately, many of them arent working anymore. at least for me.

i couldnt find, nor open any that pertained to door work, specifically window replacement, so I just dont know how much work it actually is.

i dont doubt it's not a massive labour intensive job, but i'm willing to bet at this point the couple days quote is more likely due to shop scheduling than anything.

Thanks for looking. I looked also and only found it in a parts diagram. If it is a scheduling thing they need to work on that a little better. I don’t mind leaving it in the morning or night before and picking it up the next evening but 2 days for that. Ridiculous.

Then repair it yourself if it’s a 5 min fix and don’t want the dealer to do it on their own time...

I tinted cars for many years and would actually pull the windows out of the doors in order to tint the entire window, all the way to the sides and top edges. Usually it is more time and labor to remove the door panel than it is to get the window out of the door (talking about front doors here, rear doors are usually more difficult). Once the panel is off, its typically 2 bolts that hold the window in, and you pop it out of the door. Now days many manufacturers don't even use bolts to hold the windows in, they use these plastic spring clip type of things.

I went in yesterday for a simple alignment. The first dealership called the night before and canceled my appointment due to the tech testing positive for COVID-19. Yesterday I called a different dealership and was told to bring it in at 0830 and they would be able to get me in. I showed up at 0824, and was told it was going to be two hours. I was a little surprised because it should be a 20 minute job tops, but I told them I would gladly wait. There were a handful of customers already waiting. Soon after I arrived I saw a tech go out and retrieve my vehicle. I ended up finding two techs working that used to work at fleet management for the county I work for and ended up shooting the breeze with them for a couple of minutes. I was out the door after one hour but my truck had been done for a little before they found me to let me know.

It’s a 30 minute job at the most. I am asking them when THEY want me to come. They are supposed to tell me what time They can fix it. I will come when it is convenient for them. Their work load Is not my concern. I don’t have time to take it up there and they get to it when ever they feel like it.
My patients expect to be seen close to their appointment time not whenever I decide to get to them.

UPDATE:
After waiting 3 weeks for them to call me when the part arrived I called the service guy who wrote up the problem and got it approved to be replaced. Left message on his line and after 4 hours of not hearing back I called Main number, asked for service and was told he was off. So I asked to speak with someone who Was there that could help me and was given his “ office mate”. He didn’t answer so I left message on his line. Needless to say he never returned my call, so I went by the dealership on my way home. When I got there I told them I would like to speak with the service manager. I was told he was not there but they would get another guy who was supposedly in charge. He came out and I explained what had happened that day and over the last 3 weeks. He was apologetic and really had no answer for the terrible service I had received. He checked and the part was there. He said he would have someone take the truck and put it right on if I had the time. I handed him the key and 15 minutes later the part was replaced, he said he would take care of the paperwork and if I had any other issues let him know. Now that’s service.
The service writer that initially ordered the part and I left the message to call me, called 2 days later and asked if I got it taken care of. He said it was not closed out so he wasn’t sure what was going on. He was also the one who told me it would take 1-2 days to put on. I told him I was in Tuesday night and it was fixed in 15 minutes. He didn’t have much to say. So, after dealing with a couple of crappy service people I finally got one who knew how to get things done.
And Phil, you were right, I was wrong. It did not take 30 minutes to replace the window trim as I thought. It was 15 minutes.
