Just scrolling through some random posts and I seem to be picking up some disdain for tailgate dampeners. Is that my imagination or are they frowned on?

Personally, I wish I had them just because of experiences at work. I had both an unmarked Ford Ranger and an unmarked Ford F-150 for work. I loved them, but my lieutenant would crack open my tailgate all the time so that it would fall when I drove away. I hated that!!!!
Late to the party, but here's my take. Add whatever accessory you want that makes you enjoy your vehicle more. At the end of the day it doesn't really matter what anybody else thinks.

Objectively, a damper improves upon a perceived flaw in the design. I installed one and I honestly enjoy every time I get to open my tailgate. It's the little things in life.

Enjoy your truck @Glocker !

After reading this thread, I guess I need one for the toilet seat ???
I got one on the shitter lid! To keep that thing from slamming down when you come home drunk at 3am, it pays for itself!

Uh oh, the jokes are starting again. Must resist!

The damped lid in my master bath has LED illumination for better aim during those late night excursions.
LED illumination? Now I have buyers remorse on my current damped toilet seat!

The bowl is softly illuminated by LEDs.

I have THIS ONE

They are on a timer and run for 7 hours each day.

I have them come on at 11:00 and they shut off at 6:00 AM.

The batteries (4 AA) last around 6 months so I change them when I do the smoke alarms.

Not a bad price either. I bought my Kohler dampened seat at Costco and IIRC it was $26.00 without the LED lights. I might get this one and switch them out and put the LED one in the master bath. My aim isn't so good at 3 am! :giggle:

The perfect match for the tailgate damper.

I wonder if I can get LEDs for the tailgate damper? ?
I run the same one in my master bathroom

I don't really understand the need for them, but I wouldn't say that I frown upon them. The only thing I frown upon is when people call them a dampener instead of a damper, which is what they actually are. Unless you're trying to get your tailgate wet, what you're thinking of is a damper. #grammarnazi :sunglasses:

Buy it, and give up your man card. Throw it in the lake, and get your man card back.

Yup. There's a group of Manly Men who don't need any sort of assistance and seem to have some disdain for the idea that anyone is so weak that they can't even handle the weight of our aluminum tailgates.
Then there's a group of folks who enjoy the benefits that come with refined luxuries and don't want a truck without them, and thus are horrified that Ford would dare force them to make an easy and inexpensive after-market modification to get such refinement.
Then there's a huge group of people in the middle who may or may not appreciate one, and don't care whether other people do or do not want one, but are are annoyed that people on either side make such a big deal of it.

I don't have one, nor do I want want one. That's my preference. If you want one, great! Get one.
And the anti-refinement folks (on a $40K + truck), the manly men, also don’t use windshield wipers. They just stop every so often in the rain, open the window and wipe off the rain with a rag. Works great, costs almost nothing. ? For the record, I think it’s silly on a top of the line Lariat to have to spend $50 on this.

I love mine!
Yes, it should have been a standard option on a Lariat, but it wasn't, so...
Also should have a power rear window and a moon roof option, but it doesn't. ~shrug~

I just think it's funny when ppl complain about not having a dampener on a tailgate that takes about 5 pounds of force to operate. Especially the guy on youtube who claimed he sprained his thumb on a Ranger tailgate. It's just something to bust balls about. Personally I don't like them on such a light gate because it drops slow and just wastes time but others love them.

Personally, I don't care if they are...I like mine and I like that the tailgate doesn't slam when I let go. To me it is just a nice feature and if you like it do it and if not leave others alone that do....
