A MUCH bigger problem would be avoiding doing something you want/like because randos on an internet forum aren’t into it.

F that! Get your (dampened tailgate) freak on.
Oh I have no immediate plan to get a dampener for the tailgate. A level kit and a hard tonneau cover are in line before that. I was just curious to what I was seeing out there. But it is on the list.

I got used to having one on my GMC and kept forgetting that the Ranger didn't have one; now it does.

Same here,I had one on my Tacoma and got use to it. So after 4-5 times of the tailgate slamming down was enough for me to get one as soon as they came out. Plus you can use your FordPass points so it's basically free.

Just scrolling through some random posts and I seem to be picking up some disdain for tailgate dampeners. Is that my imagination or are they frowned on?

Personally, I wish I had them just because of experiences at work. I had both an unmarked Ford Ranger and an unmarked Ford F-150 for work. I loved them, but my lieutenant would crack open my tailgate all the time so that it would fall when I drove away. I hated that!!!!
You just did this to stir the pot for the 184th time, right? Good entertainment in this thread.

I love mine. Like others, mine is a working truck and the gentle tailgate when hands are otherwise occupied is a very nice feature.

I don't get the venom and disdain so many keyboard warriors deploy against others with differing needs, likes or wants.
They don't even really have a Ranger so I just ignore their BS!

I never knew there was such a thing because who the hell needs a tailgate to open softly??? Not getting one nor do I encourage the use of such a solution to a non-problem.

I am pretty sure zero tailgates have failed because they open as designed and stop with a nice hard thud. I'm thinking Ford knows a few things about tailgates and the opening of such without a damping device.

But to each their own. Some guys like girls (or boys) with a little more cushion. Some like them thin. Get what you like and enjoy. Just don't push your damping agenda on me!!!

:)
Yeah, Ford knows a thing or two about Pick Up tailgates, and literally all their other pickups HAVE Tailgate Dampers! This Ranger is just a modified ROW version which didn't get a Damper. Literally ALL Pickups for the US have Dampers or dampers available!

I had one on my Frontier and liked it OK, but I was unsure on the Ranger since the tailgate was so featherweight.

I finally decided I wanted one after all.

After installation, I flipped the tailgate handle and watched the smooth descent of the tailgate.

Before the gate was all the way down, the overwhelming testosterone rush from that damper had caused 3 days growth of beard to appear on my face, my shirt turned into flannel, and my wife came rushiing out of the house with a sandwich and a glass of tea for me.

It was a great investment, highly recommended.

Most of us don't really care if someone wants one, but a lot of us think the level of faux outrage on the internet over the lack of one is just plain stupid.
I agree 100%. I got one when I cashed in my Fordpass rewards. I don't like my truck anymore or any less. It's an okay feature that I wouldn't miss, but I do like it. I don't hate those that love them, but can't grasp those who hate that some do love them. To each their own,

I'm on my 4th truck, plus many company trucks I've used. None have ever had a tailgate dampener and I have never wished for one so I'll just do without. Now, for a heavy hatch to the engine room of a boat there I would want one!
If others want one that's fine by me, enjoy it!

For $39,99 at DeeZee it’s one of the cheapest, quickest and Best adds you can do! You’ll be glad you did so you may want to reconsider your sequence if upgrades!

I never had one, my father never had one, and my grandfathers never had one. That settles it.
They didn't have the internet either but here you are :crackup:

I like mine, I can have my hands full, pop the handle with one finger and let go without that BANG. Plus, not knocking women here but some have tendency not to know that the gate just drops and let it go BANG, kind of like us guys and dropping the toilet seat.

Best? Not if it's something he doesn't want. You understand that, right?

It's great that Ford didn't put these on the trucks at the factory. Some folks are frugal and don't want all the bells and whistles. Ford understands that.... and that's why there is an XL, a XLT and a Lariat. Choices are good.
