Lol, Everyone's making a big deal about the ASS (auto/stop/start) and spending a lot of money to disable it. For a couple dollars on a night light plugged into the 110 outlet it's done. ;)

Not Sh!t you're kidding right? o_O You have a night light in your Ranger?

Anyway, however you guys turn it off (I always drive in S mode so not a biggie), it's just strange to me to spend $85 for something that takes up the OBD port and only does only one thing...

I got into Forscan mostly to take advantage of thing like the Bambi mode, belt reminder (don't want that while I'm crawling through the trails with my belt off), ding ding chime kill, recalibrate speedo for large tire, and bonus of course...killed auto start stop for those times when I forgot to go into S mode...:)

Because we don't know anything about Forscan and we're afraid of it? I'm pretty sure I'd plug it in, mess around and turn my truck's computer into a brick. :D At least, I'm not going to be inspired to learn how to work Forscan until one of the Forscan guys learns how to disable fake engine sound.
Yeah, screwed up my Sync but backed out of my changes and all is good. Fog lights on with high beam and a few other changes done and more to go.

I don’t have my Ranger yet, but thanks to this forum I’m ready to immobilize the ASS.

Of course I have a night light for my Ranger,it's dark in the garage at night and it gets scared. lol I bought the same 2pk that @Texasota has and it works great. For those who don't want the light shining back there at night just black it out with some black spray paint . :)

I thought about getting into Forscan but with my luck the damn truck will be all messed up doing all kinds of funky things it shouldn't be doing.

Maybe there is a Forscan option to cure your Ranger’s fear of the dark.

I'm sure it will. If I do it I'll have all the lights blinking and flashing and God knows what else, the Ranger would never be in the dark. lol

I think that's one of my biggest concerns with Forscan. Something as complicated and intricate as the programming in vehicles these days doesn't take much to screw up a bunch of stuff, especially given how interconnected everything is. Obviously it works just fine for people who know what their doing. But this is an expensive computer.

My other fear is that messing with the programming will void the warranty. And I don't want to be the one to do something wrong, not know how to fix, have to take it to the dealer to fix it, and then it's not covered under warranty because I messed with it. So now I'm out a truck for a little bit and a few thousand dollars, all because I just wanted to change which lights are the DRLs. Not worth the risk in my mind.

I've done some coding in my day and work with computers plenty, and I'm sure with enough messing around and interrogation and bench testing to make sure I actually knew what I was doing, then sure. But I'd rather not use my $40k truck as my guinea pig.

If I can do it, you sure the hell can do it...especially since you understand this lol...

You walk me through how to build that system you're working on and I'll help you with Forscan...that I didn't know anything about until last week
Hahah well I've had some bad ECU experiences in my time. With my huge engineer brain I've turned an ECU into a brick and had to buy a new one. And if I thought a motorcycle ECU cost a lot I can only imagine what the Ranger's does.

Just a little resistant to modding vehicle computers myself these days. I wouldn't hesitate to let 5 Star Tuning flash it though.

I totally get where you're coming from...I guess ignorance in my case can serve as well as bravery/stupidity LOL...the changes I did, I made sure other's had been completely verified as "working"...so far so good and I don't plan any further changes...:)

I have trained myself to turn it off right after fastening my seat belt. Not the best scenario, but it's working so far.
That's what I used to do before Forscan...but there was occasional forgetfulness then I would be annoyed by the unexpected auto stop at a light...especially maneuvering between forward/reverse...

As long as you follow the instructions and most importantly back up the configurations before you start ANYTHING - that has to be step 1 - it is pretty fool proof. If you mess something up, you just restore the backup and you are back to stock.

I just ordered some (4) of these to plug into an LED 110v USB charger. The charger has LED lights and I'll plug the little USB light into it.....just hope it's enough to kill the ASS. I'm pretty sure you need to use the 110 outlet to affect the ASS, not the USB slots
