Maybe that's something that Ford needs to address. It's definitely very easy to inadvertently press the "+/-" switch when shifting into S mode. I know that when I fist got the truck I did exactly the same thing thinking it wasn't actually in Select Shift mode. It definitely startled me as well.
Lol I did the same thing too. I was getting on the on ramp from a red light and dropped it into S and I must of hit the side button. It took off like a rocket but never shifted and just about hit the red line before I shifted it. I'm like wtf this darn pos never shifted blah blah then I realized I was the dumb ass who hit the side button.

I like how Toyota does it where you have to actually move the selector over from drive to then manually select gears. It's not just an easy press button than can be bumped without notice right where you're grabbing the selector anyway.
