Nah it's not too much to ask at all and would be an easy thing for Ford to offer considering it's the same 2.3L EcoBoost Engine. With Ford expanding its Ford Performance offerings every year to take a slice out of the aftermarket, I bet we see a tune offered for the Ranger too.
The Performance...
Oops you're right. Totally had a brain fart here
I wonder if the reason not to give the Ranger the 2.7L ecoboost was purely to avoid cannibalizing F-150 sales. Sure would have been nice to have as an option on the Ranger.
But the 2.7L is also 4 cylinders, just with 400 cc (0.4 liters) more displacement. That shouldn't take too much space? Not that we're getting a 2.7L EcoBoost anyway :)
Right and I also think that once we see the Ranger 2.3L dyno chart we'll see that it's been tuned to deliver its torque as early as possible, coming on even earlier than other applications (i.e. Mustang), which would be beneficial for towing.
The difference between 17 and 18 inch wheels comes down to looks IMO. Some people like a fatter looking tire (with smaller wheel) and some people a bigger looking wheel (with less sidewall). On the Ranger, both 17 and 18 inch wheels will leave you plenty of sidewall and similar width tires so...
Man that looks good in that color and under that lighting. I actually like the all black grille of the XL model but the chrome grille works with this color and doesn't stand out as much. Either way the grille's inside design reminds me of the Mustang's with the diagonal side cutouts, which looks...
So it seems that Ford has applications of the 2.3L EcoBoost it could easily stick in the Ranger to give it class leading HP and TQ so the question is just if they decide to do it or not. So why would they not do it then? Would it hike the Ranger price too high? Or maybe they don't want Ranger...
Hi all glad to see an intro thread. Glad to see there's plenty of others interested in this truck before it even hits dealers. I've got my eye on a Lariat 4x4 too. Hoping for a nice Christmas bonus so I can possibly pick one up when they arrive at dealers right around end of this year. ;)
Patent images usually make the vehicle look like crap but the Raptor Ranger looks great even here. And if those are US design images then we should be getting the sport bars standard since I've never seen patent images include add-on performance parts (i.e. from Ford Performance Parts).
I just read in the Raptor section that it will probably get the 2.3L Ecoboost. So will the 2.3L in the regular Ranger be the same engine, just de-tuned for less power?
If it's supposed to compete directly again the Colorado ZR2 then we should see two engine options. But I was hoping that for the diesel engine we would have gotten the 3.2L 5-cyl turbodiesel "Puma" engine rather than the 4 cyl turbodiesel like this article is reporting.
Looks like Ford's trying to position the Ranger Raptor directly against the Chevy Colorado ZR2 and its 4 cyl turbo diesel option! I hope though that like the ZR2 we also get a V6 version of the Ranger Raptor.
